Hi there guys.
Im also new here and need help.

I reasently bought a secondhand Uno Pacer 1400sx with Weber Carb.I bought is as is from the previous owner ,tha day before I got it from him ,the timong belt came off.
I did replace it ,but the timing belt cover is missing .So I need to know is there someone whom can help me set the timing corectly.I know that the Pullys must be Aligned and all of that ,also the nr1 piston must be at the top and the rotor on fire according to nr 1 piston.bla bla ,But my issue is the top pully (dont know what you guys call it)where the timing belt comes over ,Its got the little mark to aling it but were exactly must it aling to.it cant be straight in lign with the flywheelor ring gear.cause the 2 pully at the top isnt right above the bottom one????? if you know what I mean. And if its bent a Valve how can I know this without dismantling the motor (or head from block).Ive tried to start it and it some times back fires from the axhaust and other times just golps air from the carburator????????

Your explanations of backfires and such is confirmation of bent valve I'd say...but timing should be sorted first. Also you say timing belt "fell off"?? I'd be replacing tensioner too.

Also, when setting timing, Number one piston should be at the top and cam lobes should be "AWAY" from cam followers (or however the valve system is set up) You'l need to remove tappet/cam/rocker cover to view this. Dont know much about this particular engine but getting cam (valve)timing sorted to line up with ignition timing is much the same or any car.

#1 piston at top,
Both #1 valves closed
Rotor pointing to where #1 lead should be

Hi
thanx for the reply
If i replace the valves ,what needs to be done ,Is there a guide that I can follow and is it possible to do it by myself.?

Haynes Manual would be a good investment. It is a bit pricey but a good start if you planning doing it yourself, trust me. I was also following advice and how to from friends but when it brakes, you don't always want to phone your friends but rather read through the manual, do what it says and if you don't come right then you phone,,, that is the best way to start knowing your engine.

Make sure you have the right tools, new parts INCLUDING new head bolts. You will also need to do a valve grind and maybe have the head mildly shaven too.

These things take time if you want to do a good job. Word of advice. Do not hurry, be meticulous and mke sure you keep everything in order from where it came from.

It also pays to set BTDC on #1 compression stroke before starting and dont turn ANYTHING when it's apart. When you have BTDC mark the position of cam drivewheel for ease of refitting and timing.

So. The manual, the tools, the parts and the time and YES you can do it yourself...except the head shave...Mine cost $45 NZ. A small drill press is ok to do your own valve grind works fine if you mount Rubber grinding plunger to a suitably sized bolt.

ok guys thanx ,I'm gonna do this .hehehe.But beleive me that I'm gonna push on youre buttons for help if I get stuck.

Thanx again for the help.

Oh yes just one more thing .Ifn pimping my ride .please feel free some pics would be appreciated.
