All kinds of ignition/firing problems, so it went in and was diagnosed as slipped cambelt. Belt changed, re-timed, and it felt like it was running well, also had new plugs, leads and dizzy cap.

Filled it up, and did 223 miles on M-way/dual carriageway, with hardly any stop-start, keeping up, but never over 80, and mostly 65 ish, and at fill up time I had to put in 38 litres. That gives me 26.6 mpg :( . I'd expected 33+ on that kind of work, maybe 36.

It's a 1.4 ieS. I've just looked at the plugs - the rims are sooty, but the tip has not sooted up. Any ideas?

Suspect its running rich, is there any way to adjust the mixture, is the iE single or multi-point injection. It could be that the o2 sensor is giving incorrect readings either its sooted up or starting to fail?

stick some injector cleaner in it.take the plugs out and skirt some redex down the plug holes.check all breather pipes, and air filter.see how it goes.maybe you did not quite fill it right.see how it goes over a couple of weeks.
