hi i have a 1997 2.0 20v marea which has done 44000 miles and i was just woundering when the cambelt is likely to need changing and what sort of prices i would be looking at and how easy it might be for my hubby to do it.i would apreciate any info or help any one could give me also i live in worcestershire does anyone know of any decent garages which is up to the job and that dont charge the earth to do so.(y)(y)(y)

if there was a haynes manual i expect it wouldnt even be in the book, its a reall ass to do and considered a professional job on the forums.

not to say that its impossible, if you look in the guides section there is a guide but dont do it yourself if you need the car back on the road same day etc.

if you need it done properly and dont have the time see Motomech or powerfiat (y)

thanks for the advice i will give them a call see what they say thanks again

I need to get a cambelt change this year, it will be the second cambelt change on my Marea.

I looked at the Motor-mech web site, they are asking about £400 for a cambelt change. A bit more if you change the waterpump at the same time, these are about the best prices for a quality job.

Well, it really depends on how handy you are. Personally I'd rate is as a 7 out of 10, there are harder jobs on a car. I changed one on a marea 155hlx last year, following the excellent step by step guide on this forum published by fixitagaintomorrow : https://www.fiatforum.com/marea-technical/24011-photo-how-marea-20v-cam-belt-change.html

I didn't find it much more difficlut than doing it on my marea JTD105, perhaps 2 hours more as I was ultra careful. Using the engine mount unbolting technique and some leverage, it isn't that bad. I got a cambelt kit off ebay for £27 with a tensioner, and a water pump for £34, also off ebay. I already had the torx type keys you need, these £12 off ebay. So with a new aux belt too, £13 from my local motor spares shop, the cambelt change took a leisurely 6 hours and cost me £73 in total, or just £27 for the belt alone.

The only bit I added to the excellent above step by step guide, was putting extra marker pen marks on the top and bottom pulleys and the engine block to be extra sure of their correct alignment when turning the engine over 2 revolutions by hand to check the belt is on right.

I'm not really sure what everyone is so scared of.
