Technical cam belt snapped

Just bought a punto 1.7td 1997 R reg 2 weeks ago to use and abuse for work on my way home on wednesday in the dark and rain the cam belt appears to have snapped i was just wondering if the engine is goosed or is it the same as the 8v petrol non interferance ? thanksin advance

had a feeling it would be just hoping it would be ok thanks anyway at least its saved me a couple of hours in the cold finding out

Pistons likely to be ok; valves will be bent;just needs a replacement head...
If car has not been used for a while the rubber cambelt stiffens and then snaps; when buying used always replace belt/tensioners immediately or buy a chaincam or non-interference engine
