Ah yes...
It's supposed to do that. That's the Selespeed pump priming the system ready for action :) You can hear the pitch decrease slightly as the pressure builds. I don't know, these people that post 'problems' and make everyone think that the Stilo is nothing but trouble! :D

The exciting sound I would like to have identified is the one I get when I turn the engine off. It sounds like it's coming from behind the instrument cluster and it's a sort of whooooooooosh-Cluck-click. One theory I've had is that perhaps it's the clutch engaging - yes, *the* clutch, since the Selespeed would be holding the clutch disengaged with the engine idling and stationary, and so when the engine stops, the clutch must be released. But, does it make a sound? Like a tree that falls in the forest? :chin:

:D I've got the same sound on mine and mine's a Abarth with manual gearbox, so not selespeed related - to hear you describe it the way you did made me lol - i personally have no idea what it is though.

LOL the noise is doing my head in got new exhaust fitted other day and the guy opened up the door and i could see him looking about as if to say where the f**k is that coming from?

I've been informed that it is the fuel pump priming the engine ready to start. If you put you head towards the petty tank area you can hear it more..

Hence why i think when you have opened your door after a long stand still it goes on for longer. Try opening the door listen to how long it goes on for then close door for a min and open the door again listen to how long it goes on for should be shorter.

There's no link between the fuel pump and the door opening. The fuel pump only primes when the ignition is switched on so the fuel rail is pressurised with fuel before start-up, there's no need to prime the system if you're only getting something out of the car is there?

The buzzing is the Selespeed pump activating to build-up pressure in the system so there is enough to immediately pull the clutch in when the ignition is switched-on in case it was left (or is stuck) in gear. It primes up to 60 bar and cuts back in regularly as the pressure naturally drops (if you sit there with the engine ticking-over you'll hear it).
