Well I am very tempted to ask for a refund depending on the reading from diagnostics and I do motorway driving for work so a 1.2 wouldn't last as long as the 1.4. I think that's why my Polo died a bit. I want another one if I do have to shift this one but I'd much rather not.

See what the diagnostics say, if you're lucky it could be a simple fix. It sounds like whatever it is it's better than your Polo :p

Why wouldn't the 1.2 last as long? Apart from the internal dimensions the 1.4 is the same engine as the 1.2 sporting.

Miles better than the Polo! Wouldn't it be running higher revs on the motorway if it's a 1.2? is it a 6 speed too? A 1.2 may be an option too but I do like how nippy the 1.4 is and I wanted to start moving on from small engined cars even if it is slowly.

Nonesense, where have you got that idea from,?

A 1.4 will fizzle out before a 8v 1.2
1.2 16v isnt as bad as what people make out on the www. and the grapevine,

look after a car and allswell

iprefares the 1.2 16v out of the bunch, cheap tax good mpg and its not lazy,

give him chance and see if it can be fixed/sorted, (y)

As far as I know all sportings are 6 speed, using the same gearbox therefore the same revs in each gear. Theres about 20bhp between the two, if it comes to it, test drive a 1.2 from my experience they're still nippy cars although I've not been in a 1.4 sporting.

You has to sit back and give the chap chance to sort it,
they wont just hand out refunds unless its a un-econmical repair,

when you buys car you dont know nothing about it,
same with chap who you bought it off if a trader hes hardly going to have gone far in it,

Thanks guys, I've actually just had a look - the 1.2 is slightly quicker. This is all worst case scenario, fingers crossed for an easy fix and a decent dealer. I was advised by dave to get a refund asap and as my luck hasn't been so good lately I really can't afford to have another car of endless issues.

1.4 16v will be the quickest out of bunch,
but the 1.2 16v isnt far behind it,

if all goes pearshaped with the mk2b. buy a nice mint mk2a its a better looking punto, :D

Unless of course you fancy a bigger risk but at the same time a rarer car (if it's not been messed with) the Mk1 sporting 1.2 is even closer behind the newer 1.4 ;)

I love older cars, but the cost can kill me at times had 4 cars all over 15 years old so far and only one has given me 0 problems.

Also thanks for the help guys the Fault Code is P1688 - Motorised Throttle Position Relearn.

The guy said he's going to look into it thinks it may be a sensor or something related to the throttle but he'll fix it no problem.

get your money back chances are all he is going to do is delete the code. you could end up with no throttle response what so ever.
look up throttle relearn procedure on here just in case that does happen.

I'm going to ask him to show me what he's done but ive researched a refund and I don't have a leg to stand on as repairs are offered. I can only refund for major malfunctions. I'll look at that process too thank you.

Your exactly right about that. You cannot reject a used car and request a refund unless the dealer ignores / refuses to address the problem.

Even then you'd have to persue it through court unless you've used credit to purchase the car.
