There's nowt wrong with welding - when done properly, it's the best way of joining metal in a way that distributes the stresses evenly throughout a structure.

Well, the full tank of fuel I put in at the beginning of summer is lasting well. Had a run out to Kelso in some beautiful sunshine this afternoon. Although I wasnt driving particularly fast, a sharp left hander produced a strong smell of fuel in the car. Is it possible that the half full tank just sloshed up the filler pipe? Smell lasted for about ten minutes or so. There is no smell from inside the boot. Any thoughts? Steve

Have you already changed the jubilee clips on the fuel filler hose?

Well, while our southern friends are sheltering in their bomb shelters, I have been out for my last blast of 2013 before putting Christine away for the winter. Only one tank of fuel used this year and just 226 miles done. A couple of pics snapped on my iPhone at Etal Village in north Northumberland. The school kids have clearly been waiting a long time for their school bus! :D

I feel your pain, Steve.

I ran over a dead deer (or it could have been a very large dog, also dead) in my DS3 two weeks ago and I've done it some serious mischief underneath.

Still waiting to hear what the cost will be, but I fear it will be mega £££.

My B's already off the road for the winter, so I've had to "liberate" the wife's car until mine is fixed.

I can now vouch for the fact that it's possible to be both in the doghouse and up sh*t creek at the same time.

Hi mate. Sorry I have been so tardy with the response! Christine has been under her covers for the winter. Clunky, my Freelander has been repaired at great expense and is currently for sale at slightly more than the cost of the repairs! The Mercedes has been traded, but not for my 'retirement dream classic' but for a second XC70 for 'Er indoors' Until Clunky sells, I still have four cars so conversations about my dream classic tend to be a bit short! Drive safely! I will update when I get Christine out of hibernation. Steve

You really started something with that 'retirement dream classic' thread - I've been poring through the classifieds in Classic & Sports Car ever since!

Cheers Roy. She passed!!! She's back home. Just needing some road tax and a wash and polish. I think I might treat her to a wind deflector if I can find one. It will be a bit of a culture shock for Er Indoors after experiencing the Mercedes SLK! Drive safely friends. Steve
