Hi Dav. I used Hylomar Blue instant gasket. I would have preferred to use a paper gasket and I might get some thick gasket material and make one. As for which is better, I don't know. I think I would probably still used some goo, even with a paper gasket. Others may disagree.

All gone a bit quiet on the forum? Personally, just like Chris Rea, I'm still waiting for the summer. I have only covered 192 miles this year and I am seriously considering not taxing Christine for the winter. I'm going to give her a wash and vacuum this morning then go for a run. Because of the limited use, anyone got any thoughts about changing the oil?

I would be tempted to change the oil annually anyway, but plugs I'd just have a quick check and refit if ok.
I thought I was bad only having done 1,600 between MOTs, too tempting to take the RX-8 instead sometimes!

Well, there you go, cars SORN and off the road and the suns cracking the flags. I will change the oil and filter as Pete suggested but, if I tax it for a further month, you can guarantee it will snow.

All was going well until Elephant cancelled the insurance today. I had received the renewal email but was unable to check the paperwork online due to a glitch. I emailed Elephant with my concern but received the same email back. I tried again but was unable to log on and check my policy. I then received my policy, certificate and details through the post. Today, I received a letter saying the insurance was cancelled on 4th December???? A 20 min phone call later and all is good. Is this worrying?

Couldnt resist any longer. Removed the car cover and started up Christine. Well, when I say started, I had to use jump leads but she started and I drove her out of the garage for the first time this year. The picture is taken from my phone and was after removal of the car cover and prior to a quick wash. The car is currently sorn and having just spent £560 on tyres for the SLK, may not be on the road until Easter.

That sounds a plan Will, however my financial advisor doesn't agree and she holds the cheque book with a vice like grip The car cover has done a good job but to be fair, the car needed a wash and isn't quite as shiny as the picture suggests. I was tempted to give her a little blast up the road to clean up the rear discs but the thought of being stopped and my car being seized/crushed put me off.

Christine is booked in for MOT and will be back on the road at the end of April. I haven't used the hardtop for over a year and may be open to sensible offers for it. The car is still SORN at the moment so I'm looking forward to taking it for its pre booked MOT test.

MOT is Wednesday and I'm going to tax her from beginning of May. Just hope it stops raining - did someone actually mention the drought word recently?

MOT brought forward to today and passed. Advisory for rusty front coil springs? I don't think I have seen a pair of springs on a car this age that wouldn't have rust - any views on this? Anyway, just need to tax her now and go for a blast.

My Alfa has had advisories for rusty springs for the last five years, so I take little notice!
