:bang: silly me broke my lift up reverse trying to get my new Richbrook gearknob on. when i went to lift-up to put the car into reverse it wouldnt slide up inside the gear knob, so i got p!ssed off at it and with brute igorance tryed to force it up, now i have broke the bevel type thingy that you use to 'lift-up' i only have a small piece of plastic to use now.

has anyone got any solutions to this problem?
would a Richbrook gear shaft sleeve work in anyway?
http://www.richbrook.co.uk/pages/gearshaftsleeve.html

or will i have to buy a new mechanism?

i dont know all i know is im bloody stupid :bang:

I have never looked into this as I am happy with the knob I have ;) I do know that Fiat do a specific knob for the stilo and its expensive to something in the region of £50 + alternativly you could contact Richbrook and ask them the same question It looks like the knob you have is not suitable for your car :)

I have exactly the same problem and cannot find a replacement anywhere! I broke it trying to change the knob. I would happily replace with a universal one but not sure which will fit. Have you managed to find a replacement? and if so please can you tell me where you got it from?.......:)

i have not sloved the problem, i just sanded the lift-up coller down a bit and smoothed it out, still looking for one, i went to a breakers yard last week to get some parts off an abarth but it was sele-speed so i couldnt take the lift-up mechanism off. the gear knob i have on at the moment is a richbrook which i bought from the richbrook stand at max power last year and the guy assured me it would fit but clearly he was chattin through his ass. lol.

Managed to find a gear shaft sleeve from a fiat salvage yard. However they wouldn't sell me just the sleeve, I had to buy the whole gear stick and mechanism. This cost me £30 which is steep for a bit of plastic but it was bugging me that much that I bought it. The sleeve was from a car of the same age as mine etc, however when I got it home to fit, I discovered it was longer than my shaft! :D

A bit of re-design of the new shaft sleeve cut a section out from the middle and taped and glued back together, it now fits perfectly and nobody would ever know the difference! You can't see the taped bit because it is covered by the leather cover.
Had no problems since fitting it, im extremely happy that it is fixed! :D
Before buying the sleeve, I got a quote from fiat for the part who said they dont sell it seperatly I would have to buy a whole new gearstick at £100!!

Therefore my advise is to definately look around scrap yards and salvage places!

cheers vic, its not really buggin me at the moment but i'd like to get it fixed before i sell the car and i have been around a few scrap yards looking for stilo's with the lift up revers, but all i can find is sele-speed abarths with is a bit of a nightmare but i wont be selling my baby for a while so i'm sure i'll find one eventually.
