Lol if I lived anywhere else in the UK mate I'd probs have an Evo right now but not in this crappy place LOL

Haha, bet they would eat you on insurance on an Evo :p

Luckily my area isn't too bad, as i'm just outside of Peterborough in a village full of farmer types.

My quote is added onto a telematic insurance policy which is why it's so cheap, will probably boost to 2.5k-3.5k if i wasn't

£22k for me to insure an EVO right now...aye i want to live in a quite farmer/country side type of area nice and peaceful :) no idea what telematic insurance is lol

Decided to replace the broken spring today, removed the shocker and was going to take it to a garage to remove the spring as i dont have any spring compressors...removed it within minutes, took it to a garage was told the shocker top is too rusty and siezed to remove :( had a look and the nut and threads were just one big rusted piece of metal so much corrosion, vauxhall astra H top mounts are stupid the nuts for the threads sit deep inside the top mount so there is loads of room for water to gather and rust away the thread

So i tryed with an airgun no luck, tryed molegrips on the shocker no luck, warmed it glowing red destroying the top mount still wont open, took it to another garage they said it wont open lol

In end i had to go to dealers and buy a brand new shocker, top mount, bearing and retaining clips cost me £134 for all of them when only the spring was at fault and the spring it self only cost around £30

No bump stops or dust covers in stock, so i got a grinder out and cut the old spring off the shocker and cut the shocker in half to remove the old bump stop and dust cover which were in good useable condition and i need the vehicle tomorrow

Now its all refitted i filled the new top mount (where the nut for the shocker goes) with grease right to the top to try stop future rust, check other side shocker same story :( will have fun when that side spring also breaks lol

Telematic insurance is when you need that tracker box in you car which monitors your speed, acceleration, journey time, harsh braking, motorway distances travelled :bang:

From seeing your car Brin and checking this thread a lot i'm swaying a lot closer to getting an Astra SXI (2006 onwards) rather than a Zetec-S next year.

I know who to pester when i need to know how to do things ehh ;)

LOL im about to drop some knowledge on you right now lol

2004-2007 the 1.6 16v engines are 105bhp and without VVT...i purposley chose this engine as it is more solid and has less issues than the VVT one, no variator to mess up etc..

2007-2010 the 1.6 16v engines are 115bhp with VVT, any model from 2007 onwards comes with slight changes as in the front grills and most important the interior centre console LCD screen is the larger one that shows MPG etc.. and the standard sterio shojuld be ipod connectable...the VVT models are also the models with the "sport" button, i personally didnt notice any difference in the 1.6 lol

you can add the ipod deck and large LCD screen yourself if you wish need it all coding in though everything needs coding on newer vehicles lol also the VVT ones iv done a few at me old work the ECU pins tend to corrode over time causes issues...also the VVT models are no longer considered twinport i dont think (i dont have a clue what twin port actually means maybe just a posh word for 16v lmao)

Yeah i was thinking 2006/2007. Nothing pre-2006 as this is when the Astra had a facelift i think and personally think it looks better.

The 2007 onwards is very similar visually as the grills only main difference is how it's checkered rather than stripped and the bumpers look smoother (but also look to sit higher). Also the alloys changed.

The centre console isn't an issue as the pre-2007 Astras have trip computers anyway don't they. So will still show MPG etc just not on such a big screen. iPod compatibility isn't an issue as i don't have an iPod and won't waste my phone battery on music so i'll use a CD ;)

I've mainly been looking at the 2006 models as you can pick up a decent mileage with nice service history etc for 4k-5k, even cheaper if buying privately but after the problems with the Punto i think i'll buy from a dealer.
