Hi guys, I've got a 2000 hgt 155 Bravo. Shes great when cold and occasionally when hot. But when hot more often than not she's a bitch! Stuttering on idle and holding back through the mid range! I'm fairly knowledgeable on the 147 but not the 155. I got dicked today by a 307 SW (3rd gear upward) which is why I'm posting this. Off the mark she screws my mrs's A3 and thats pretty rapid! So can someone explain to me the possible causes of my mid range problem? any input will be appreciated!:)

Sounds like it could just use a bit of love to me, i'm guessing a throttlebody clean, general service and cleaning some of the sensors should fix the issue?

Any errors on the dash?

Hi mate. I polished the throttle body not so long ago, mirror finish, obviously not too close to the butterfly. I've just changed the oil 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure about the VIS system, its quite a big unit and I don't want to take it apart and create more problems. What sensors were you thinkin? There are no errors at all on the dash. Only a c11 which is the temp sensor in the wing mirror. Cheers for the reply. I don't take kindly to being out dragged by 307 sw's lol! :bang:

Hmm most of the problem's ive ever had on my cars have been related to the air system but from what you've told me everything sounds fine if i'm being honest, the issue comes when it is up to temperature so, no issues with engine cooling? temperature dials acting normal? exhaust emissions right? wonder if engine is running out of its parameters, to lean or rich, any modifications?

Will it rev freely in neutral? < - this is always a good test :p

Hi guys. Cheers for your responses. Right, in reply to your replies lol.

Spark plugs were done about 1500miles ago. (NGKR's)

It had mot back in april and was doing this problem back then, emissions all came back fine. Temperature runs fine, never too low or high, if it does get high the fan kicks in. I decatted after the MOT, thats the only mod. Obviously it was doing this prob before and after decat.

I'm thinking of cleaning the VIS System out, has any1 done this? I have a spare system, so I'll clean it and fit it in place of the one on there.

What Lambda Sensor did you go for mate? and were the symptoms exactly the same. Also did you have problems when it was running cold?

Once again thanks for your input, much appreciated!!!!(y)

Have you got an iduction kit? And do the usual ecu reset, the 155 is a bugger for mods. When they do work it really flys, my bro used to have one, and that was a bugger in mid range..as people say check all The sensors and give it a good run after the reset, ecu will then reset the settings of the power delivery depending on how you drive it ofcourse:D

Hi mate, no induction kit, literally the only mod's are polished throttle body and decat pipe with magnex back box which doesn't make a lot of difference i don't think. I haven't reset the ecu properly i don't think. Whats the procedure? cheers

i belive you disconnet the negative from the battery for 45 mins, you then reconnect..start it for 5 mins straight, no revs...let it idle then switch it off, then go drive it how you like..and see over the next week or two if it has made any difference :)

Hello,
Doesn't it have 2 lambla sensors?
One before the catalytic converter and one after?

If it does then the problem is that there should be a difference in the readings of the two probes( the one after the catalytic converter showing burnt fuel).

I believe that decating a car with 2 O2sensors would result in a lean/rich mixture.

Did you notice any change in mpg?

Hi mate, it only has one lambda sensor, which is located on the downpipe. so the sensor will not be affected by the decat pipe. It is running rich though, maybe this is the fact that the cat isn't there, meaning you can smell the petrol more.

Cheers

It might be worth checking the spark plugs even tho they are ~new.
-check to see if any are wet/oily or in general good condition.
-check spark plug gap.

If any of the spark plugs are oily/wet it might help you determine if
injector leaks or if the coils are faulty ( these seem to be a very probable cause for the symptoms.. runs bad when hot or under load)

It is possible that the error was not registered.
