your not going to be able to do any mods that will make any difference in performance (unless you spend a fortune). im sure an air filter and exhaust would make it sound powerful. If your after more power i'd go for a 1.8, it nearly consumes the same amount of fuel and has about 35bhp more

Would love a 1.8 only the insurace is a bit high, and have spent alot of money and effort on the car to get rid and an engin change is a lot of work. is the 1.4 really that sh**?

just get yourself a good exhaust mate and an induction kit then you wont really hear the engine :) and since if its a custom exhaust you can choose what you want it to sound like

i also unfortunatly was left a 1.4 12v bravo as a first car, and still have it (it still works after 2 years!), i got the supersprint exhaust for it, and a "green" cotton air filter. I then ripped the airbox and ran a new air intake direct from a dam from (an aftermarket) front bumper which runs direct to my filter, i also relocated the intake air sensor inside the new induction piping, (before the filter) so the car reckons its getting more air than it is, and it definetly has a tiny bit more pull than it used to, not alot, but enough to notice it. And if you drive it right its by no means a **** slow car.

simon, as far as increasing performance, the 1.4 is a poor base car in all honesty. The 1.2 has some quick and easy gains to be made without major work and expense. i say that, meaning about £600 could add 15bhp
But if you are 19 or over, get a quote on the 1.8, as you might be surprised how affordable it is.

Well thanks for the info guys, i am still wet behind the ears at 18 years young so think the 1.8 is outa the question, in regards to the current engine looks like im gonna keep it the same then, would it be possible to ad a filter such as this http://www.knfilters.com/57i/57i-induction-kits.htm or would it have to be a pannel filter to sit inside the standard air box.???
Thanks once again u guys!

Green make an induction kit for your car. K n N dont, ive got a Green filter on mine and after several thousand miles its perfect still. (just click the 1.4 link)

http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/pages/sbv_pl.asp?Vehicle=FTBRA01&PartType=AFG01

Im sure other companies must make them for your car too. Just have a look around. The performance probably wont improve with your car but it will sound like your moving on more lol. Induction kits make more noise and in the right conditions more power than a panel filter does.

But do look into the 1.8 because i had one when i was 18 and the insurance was only just over a thousand.

Cheers Chris, that looks good, only it says 1.4
16valve, mines a 12v, didnt know they make a 16v 1.4????? any ideas?

ignor the above think its a typo on the site as i went in and the diagram says 12v.
thanx mate.

Simon, its a typo on the site. If you click the fitting instructions for the 1.4 on the left of the list (the f) it clearly shows a 12v engine m8. Hope that helps. Shop about though if you can because needforspeed arent always the cheapest.

thanks once again chris, one more question, do you know where i can get a metal air flow pipe
(pipe a) that is on the top pic of this page. http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/pages/fitinst.asp?PartNo=P124 as the exisiting one is rubber , i would fit it like the bottom pic and do away with the rubber pipe but think it would look nice with a metal one. mayb in a blue colour.... not to be too spacific lol.
Thanks people for all your help on this.

Hmm, cant find an appropriate pipe for a 1.4. Im sure someone on here knows of a good metal fabricator that could knock one up. Id make one myself, but it depends how your skills/ facilities are..

well there are pipes available to buy on e-bay and the like only im posting from work and dont know the size of the pipe as in diameter as my car is at home, i was hoping to order one tonight. not to worry you have helped me enough.
really appreciate it.
rgdsSimon.

If you want a good sound coming from it you want some serious cold air being fed direct to the filter, for this i made the flow out of this cheap and crappy flexible metal tubing, its like tinfoil but you can extend/bend it. Its not the best of stuff but you its good if you dont wanna spend to much (overall i paid £10 for this tubing, the "pro" alternative stuff was about £40 a foot.)

It gave mine a much meatier bassy-er tone and i swear it must give it an extra bhp cause it defo pulls a tiny bit more at peak torque.

john was yours a 1.4 and do you have any pics, pics would help me alot. i think i know what tubing you meant, where did u attach the tubing and where did u place the filter?
cheers mate!

Expect a zero bhp gain from any induction kit on a 1.4 guys. The only reason to fork out that sort of money is if you want the sound of an induction whoosh when you boot it. I used a K&N panel filter from YBfilters on ebay with no problems though. Cant claim any bhp gain from that, but between that and the powerflow exhaust i did feel that it was a little more responsive when you hit the gas hard... Again for the exhaust, the only reason to fit one is for the sporty or raucous deep sound if thats what floats your boat.
