Hi, My sister had her bag stolen from her locker at work and this had her car key in it. It is one of the ones that costs about £1000 to change the security system. She has been told by her insurers that her insurence is invalid and that she has to replace all of the keys and everything. They have offered to pay £100 towards this which seems a bit tight to me.

Anybody got any ideas of how to get this sorted out on the cheap? We thought about selling the car but it is worth so little she'd have to put a lot of money in to get anything half decent to replace it.

thanks

What colour was the key? Blue or red/burgandy?

the master key we have is Burgandy, the key that was nicked was blue

the burgandy key is the master key! you can get replacement keys from fiat for around £70 i think, as long as you have the master which u do!

Trouble is, someone else out there still has a blue key to get in.

Hmm, isn't there a service where you can get your locks changed and the information copied across to new keys?

If your worried somebody might steal the car then....

All you do is get a set of lock barrels & ignition barrel from EBay or a scrap yard with all the keys.

Swap them over, however the key will work but it wont turn off the immobilisor...

So what you do is open each key and swap the black chip in them to the new keys you got.

Job done, shouldn't cost no more than £35 for a set of barrels with ignition ignition and a set of keys. Fit them yourself, cost £0. Swap the chip over, cost £0.

Just alittle bit of time and effort and abit of reading (Haynes manual).

If you program another pair of blew keys the stolen one won't start the car anymore. OK, they can still get in but you can do that by breaking the window almost as easily.

Is that right? So if we bought 2 new keys and coded them to the immobiliser the old keys wouldn't work? If this is the case this sounds like the route to take. Does anyone know for sure that this is the case? This immobiliser system that Fiat had is a real bastard, the only people who ever seem to suffer from it are genuine owners, the **** head criminals don't seem to get stung.

The immob can only have 2 blue keys coded to it. Once you reprogram it the old keys won't work. But as I said they will still open the doors.

You don't hear of many fiats being hotwired and driven away.
