More info Twilight. The L sensor? What's that, the knock sensor? Where is it? More mpg would be nice.

Will a mechaninc know what the "L" sensor is and where it is or can you point me in the right direction so I can get someone to check it out please?

The "L"sensor

Sorry for not making you understand what and where this little device is.

I am from Greece and I do not know the correct term for the UK.

Probably the correct term is lamda sensor.

Anyway, this device is attached on the downpipe (exhaust) where the machine is housed before the catalytic converter.

Try to unplug the electrical plug which leads to the ecu not the whole device from the downpipe and see what happens. If the car runs smoothly then you have to replace this sensor.

What does this sensor do? It measures if the mixture is lean or rich.

Oh i see now it is the lamda probe.

Sometimes the diagnostic cannot "see" the real problem. What it does is only making a presumption.

Hi Twilight,
I disconnected what I believe to be the Lambda sensor connector (from the ECU connector and not the exhaust pipe) and the car ran without the 'flat spot' problem!

As it happens, the connector was quite messy and had oil on it. I cleaned the connector and have since re-connected it and up to now it is still running OK.

I can't believe that the oil on the connector was the problem so as soon as it happens again, I'll order a new sensor, probably from this place . . .

Lambda Sensor

Yes, the lambda sensor screws into the exhaust just after the manifold. You'll see a wire and sensor coming out of your exhaust.
