Hello, to everyone, i am owner of a Tipo 1.4 ie 12/92. As it is well known the front brakes are disks-slave sylinder, and self adjusting drums the rear brakes.
So i want to place dual disks in front and disk brake in the rear any suggestions?

Forget the rears as the drums are fine. Tipo does all it's braking at the front. Fit discs/pads from a tipo 2.0 ltr 8v or an Alfa 155. Disc is 257mm x 20 vented or you could go the whole hog and fit the Tipo 16v discs which are 284mm x 22, but both discs will require the donar's calipers.

anyone offer up the dimensions of 16V rear discs...?

I can't seem to find reference to them in the manuals... and i don't have any to measure just right now.

thanks

there is one thing to remember (as i found out), when putting bigger calipers on a car you must make sure they dont rub/catch the inside edge of the wheel...... Due to the J of the wheel...IE 5J, 5.5J, 6.0J ect

I noticed yesterday that the suspension struts that are on the 16V have a flat bit where the tyres and rims pass.

Might not be able to fit 2.0 16v brakes. They are held to the hub carrier with 19mm bolts - think all the models below 2.0 16v use 17mm bolts. Just found this issue with Bunny's 1.9JTD bravo which I couldn't fit Bravo 2.0 20v brakes.

Going to vented brakes from a bravo/brava/marea 1.9TD/JTD/1.8/1.6 auto is the best option as shown on my 1.9 TD SX tipo.

Yes hellcat is right they are 240mm and the thickness is 11mm,
the 1.4 cost around 15.00 each and the 2.0 around 40.00 each.. Mmmmmmmmm kinda dont make sense does it??

here is a link to a good place i use....

last time i did a cusory look... shop4parts worked out 50.00 for front and back with postage... which seemed ok to me.

Resurrecting an old thread to ask for further info....

My car is a late model 1995 Tipo Mk2 1.4ieS... I am doing a gradual refurb of the brakes and am now casually looking on ebay for remnant-type front brake hoses and pads (possibly discs). However it is often not clear even when using the compatibility lists and lookup features on the ad / auction pages, exactly which parts will fit my car.

Essentially as I understand it the front brakes (and other stuff) were upgraded by Fiat when they went to the Mk2, so logically this would apply to some or all of the calipers, pads, discs and hydraulics / hoses. And yet many aftermarket parts claim to fit e.g. the 1.4 from 1988 - 1995, with the Mk2 coming in around 1993.

As far as brake hoses go, there seem to be 2 lengths supplied by most manufacturers... 1 at approx 380mm (older cars I THINK) and one at 410mm (probably newer, common with Bravas/Bravos etc).

The same thing goes for brake shoes, even if you go on the Mintex site. There is no obvious distinction between Mk1 cars and Mk2 cars, just several options that all claim to fit.

So my question is... does anyone have a clear summary and understanding about the differences in brake components for the lower end Tipos )1.4, 1.6, 1.7D).

I can measure my brake hoses but pad compatibility is guesswork.

Thanks for any feedback.

Why ebay?
Don't you have a friendly motor factor who sources and supplies parts for all makes?

I buy all of my Tipo parts from a motor factor in a small town here in Spain, most recently the metal coolant pipe that fits behind the engine block and a carburetor mounting rubber, parts I would normally only expect to find at a stealership.
Apart from the normal run of the mill stuff, like filters and belts, I've bought brake hoses and shock absorbers from them too, all off the shelf.
