Brake Warning Light on dash flashing???

Hi All,
My brake warning light(beside handbrake light) has started flashing intermittently. I have new pads (1 months old), fluid level seems okay and all brake lights are working.

Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem??

Hi

I have muh the same probelm with the hand-brake waring light. I checked the the swith and carried out all the basic tests. It's now time to take he dash apart to see if the bulb is lose..but dont fancy going through with that..any suggestions or is this a classic fiat electrical fault?

Is this not something to do with ABS?

No ABS

Sorry, i should i have mentioned before. It's a '97 1.4sx, so no ABS.(unfortunately!) It only started to happen after i changed the pads.

Don't know, maybe it is a loose bulb, but it seems to work in tandem with pushing the brake pedal so i doubt it.

Hydraulic Brake Fluid

Hi Guys;

The problem seems to be existing because of the low level of the brake fluid !

Check the level & then check the level contolling stuff or check the entire brake system for disc brakes etc...

As you do not have ABS, you have two avenues to go down. Either there IS a brake fault or it's a false warning so
1 Check your brake fluid level is correct
2 Check your front brake pads are OK
3 Is your handbrake going fully off

If they are OK then you have to eliminate which sensor is wrongly setting off the warning light.
Assuming your model has the same warning light for brake pad wear low indicator, handbrake on and low brake fluid level (some have a separate warning light for brake pad) then disconnect one at a time and test drive. I would go for the brake fluid level first as that's easy to get to. Then pull off the handbrake warning light switch connector next to the handbrake, then finally go for the brake pad wear indicator. Drive around and see if you've found the cause.

Only you know whether it goes on over bumps (usually handbrake w/light switch in that case) or when you apply the footbrake (fluid level or brake pad wear indicator).

Sometimes the brake fluid level float can develop a hole and "sink" in the fluid giving a false reading.

Don't forget to reconnect them all again once you've found out the culprit and fixed it. Good luck

Check to see if one of the wires from the pads has been pinched (eg between the pad and caliper) when the pads were fitted - its a long shot but this happened to me once when I fitted some pads.

Light Warning

Could it possibly the light that warns you of a failed brake light? Just a suggestion, hope you find the problem.
