Had a problem with the brake light sticking on,and sometimes no response from the throttle.also the asr/esp failure warnings are get too regular ........

The brake pedal switch is very sensitive,it can easily be readjusted as you lift your feet out of the car and catch it on the back of the pedal and lifting it. if you remove the plastic panel that covers the pedal assembly, then push down the brake pedal then with the other hand try to pull down the little plunger thats sticking out of the brake light switch, then release the pedal this should have put the lights out,now lift the pedal up until you hear 2 clicks this will have correctly adjusted the switch............If your stilo is a 1.6 there is a modified throttle body available as Fiat have had this problem

new switch fitted today ,no further problems.phew!!!! cheap too £3.86

I think I had this just now, as Jules drove off in the Selespeed but said wouldn't change up in auto!

I noticed brake lights still on as she pulled in, so had a look and there is a minute bit of pressure between brake light being on and going off, which would explain why box not changing up if brakes still on, maybe [it only went up as it hit limiter, or manual over-ride] - I had to lift up the pedal to ensure light went off.

I will try that technique in morning, otherwise off to dealer :(

As a follow on from yesterday when I realised brake light was remaining on, I took it down to my local FIAT dealer this Saturday morning.

Was seen within minutes, and car looked at. And then handed back to me minutes later!!! Apparently, it is the linkages, and are being ordered and replaced under 3rd year warranty, cost about £250 or so.

In the interim, I just have to use my left foot to lift UP the brake pedal as I drive off - this switches off lights, and autobox will now change up in automode.

Fun n games, but being sorted :)

Thats outrageous, a garage letting you take your car away when its in an unfair state. What if your in the process of lifting your foot up to turn the lights off and you have to brake? Pull your foot out from under pedal or mash you foot by slamming your other foot down! Garages are such A-holes sometimes.

I have probably been driving out like it for a few days, to be honest - dread to think what the person behind was thinking as I sped away.

It was my choice to take the car away, I could have forced the issue, but Alfanige was going to be doing work on it today, but now cancelled due to me wanting to order a BMC CDA airbox first [the remap will take this into account, plus already got insurance sorted for it].

The actual process of lifting the brake is quite easy, what with only being two pedals down there, and can be done quite swiftly. The left foot is redundant anyway, so now has something to keep it occupied.
