General Brake light switch

My brake lights are on constantly, I have located the brake light switch and when pushed in lights go off. Is this correct? And how do I fix this as I have no cruise control and asr warning light on

You have two ways:
1.Take the switch out then pull the self-adjusting pin out with a pair of pliers and put the switch back in.
2.With the engine on push the brake pedal and then use the pliers to pull out the self-adjusting pin.

Either way it's a 1 minute job.
