Hi,

First post so be gentle. Im not great with cars, I can drive one but understanding all the technical side is a bit beyond me, hence why i hope you great people can help me. Ive a 03 Automatic Punto.

Last year i had my MOT done and the garage replaced my Brake Discs, Pads, Shoes and Drums , this came to about £200 minus labour.

The car was driven for around 6 months and towards the end of this 6 months there was a unusual scraping sound coming from the back end of my car. The car was not used once in the following 6 months (for personal reasons) and when a year had passed my MOT came around again.

I took my car to a different garage and they described that the these parts (which i still have in my possession) were 'Mangled and disintegrated to a dangerous standard' when i took my car in. Subsequently a number of these parts were repaid for and refitted for my new MOT.

How long should these parts last for? 6 Months?
Should they have fallen apart in such a short space of time?

the garage that found the parts suggested that they might have been fitted incorrectly, is this the most logical assumption or could something else have caused it?

Hope someone can lend a hand and some advice.

Many thanks

James

nice bunny rabbit.

Erm im assuming you was asking if i was driving on standard bolts and wheels.

Yes to my knowledge. How long should the respective parts technically last.

I was recommended to take the 1st garage to small claims court. Having done so the 1st garage has sent there defense which practically is the following points:

a) no evidance that what was taken off by 2nd garage is what they fitted
b) when it left them it had passed a MOT
c) anyone else could have driven car when i was not using it (no one did - honest)
D) ive not contacted them with any problems and also because it was a long time ago.

anyone else with any opinions on this would be really appreciated as well, as the more information the easier i can understand the entire problem / mechanics of the parts.

ok..gotcha

thanks for that..lil bit more clued up now.

Is there any info that Fiat would give out that would sorta validate that or anything they have which kinda says our parts are guaranteed for X time / miles etc etc

FIAT will have bought brake parts from a supplier for use on their cars, that supplier might give a guarantee and FIAT will only recommend how long they should last and pass on the manufacturers guarantee; however nothing says the garage used OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts as replacements.
