The bottom end seems to be knocking on my 8V engine after it broke down due to overheating, It had a minor waterleak which seemed to turn into major, and there was no water left in the system, the engine got so hot it started melting the cam cover. Could this be the bottom end knocking after this? Also would a 16V go in without changing the looms? Many thanks kai

If you can't maintain a simple cooling system or even switch off an overheating engine before it completely cooks itself, I don't think you should be contemplating changing the engine for a different model....
bit harsh, we all have to learn somehow.. Sure he won't do it again now lol.
8v engines are cheap as chips so just get a replacement.
A 16v swap will be too much faff. Different ECU, loom not to mention the larger front brakes on the 16v model.
