Hey all, as most of you... well, probibly not alot of you know, i have had all my speakers ready at home to fit into a boot install but havn't had the time to build one, and today i decided that i would get to work on it.

so i wanted one that looks alright, but when the boot is closed is covered by the parcel shelf .
And as stealth shelfs are about 80 odd quid, i thought why not sacrifice some (never used) boot space for the speakers.

all in all (not including speaker wire, which i'm yet to buy) this has cost me £103, as the infinities were on offer for 50 quid and with my staff discount that came down to about 42 quid and the subs/amp/wiring was 60 quid for the lot from a mate of mine. (of yet i'm still to pay) CHEERS DAVE!(y)
the mdf was out of next doors skip... (they are having their bathroom redone) :woot:
and £1 for the acoustic cloth, coz i rule:D

The results are as follows, not a bad job for 3 hours work and £1's worth of matirials :D
best thing about it is that it comes out in a bout 30 seconds

What do you think?

by the way, as you may have noticed nothings connected up yet :p
i dont trust myself + need more cabling

I think you have achieved a great deal here with the budget you mention. For me, the 6 x 9's detract from the build and will affect the SQ adversely. I would have put the amp right between the subs and saved the bootspace. Thats only my opinion though as I say, great effort. Let us know how it sounds when wired up.

Thanks:eek: You must have been the first to read it been like it for ages(y)

Changed now.

16 gauge should be OK to carry 100W RMS (some say its good for 300W RMS :chin: ), but if you want, you could use 12 gauge. You can get it (12 gauge) for a £1/metre from Car Audio Discount. Don't know how much Halfords speaker cable is, especially with your staff discount.

I asked one of my mates to do the wiring for me, he seems to think that it's fine to use the standard wiring, so i'm just gonna use that, and unplug my current rear speakers and plug them in to the 6x9's all the amp wiring is there i might try and do it myself tonight :p

i would have said leave the standard speakers wired in, and take the 6x9s off them. or remove the 6x9s completely. The subs should take care of the bass, if that is a full enclosure not just a panel, if it is a panel you wont get much bass at all as the air will just push out! The 6x9's will just mask the bass from the subs. you would've been better putting the amp in between the subs and the 6x9s under the shelf. You could've used the carpet to cover the top of the shelf which would've hidden the speakers?

Just my opinion, it does look good though!

Jon+Em

(Edit) it'd probably sound better the other way around too, the subs in the middle and the 6x9s on the outside in a better stereo placement!

Are the 6x9s going to be run off the HU? Standard speaker wire may OK. Are you intending to use the mutant amp to power the subs?

The quality of the build looks ok, but I wouldn't have 6x9s. 6x9s are evil IMO. But its not my car :)

And I hope you have them subs in an enclosure as Paul has pointed out!

wow we dont like 6x9s here do we, hmm maybe i should have taken some advice first, but to be honest i'm not looking for tarmac splitting bass, nor Preimium quality sound, just an improvement o what i have atm :D

yeah the amp is for the subs, and the 6x9's are coming straight from the HU,

Yet another question, where do you lot run the leads for your speakers, do you just tack them in or am i going to have to remove door panels etc?

Cheers for all the comments (y)

That's because they drag the soundstage to the back of the car. Do you go to a concert and listen to the band with your back turned?

What size enclosures have you got for the subs?

You should be able to run wiring from the HU/bulkhead through the sill trims and up into the rear seat area. Removing door panels would be unnecessary.

good stuff, try to make sure it isnt resting on the back seats there though, my sub used to rub off it and squeek like mad and it was really really annoying

Are they free air subs? If not, then you should know that you need an enclosure :)
