What do the vents on the bonnet (2014 ducato 2,3) do , as water seems to pour on the engine and gearbox from them, was wondering about blanking the vents , any suggestions, thank you

They are the fresh air inlets to the cab heater system. Are you saying that water is leaking from the unit that is bolted to the underside of the bonnet?

Hi Rayc, its looks like its leaking where it joins the housing in the engine compartment, been putting a plastic sheet when it rains , there always a lot of water in the sheet ,

Is the rubber seal in place on the inlet housing? Are you sure the rain water is not getting in from the windscreen scuttle?

Thats where i put the plastic sheet and tuck it right back, when we get heavy rain there normally a lot of water pooled on the sheet ,there is probably a leak on the shuttle , as its common on ducato, :bang:

Did the same with my 2014 van as water was getting in. This was after fully sealing a brand new scuttle and adding high density foam around the headlights and any other openings I could find. After rain there was a puddle of water collected right under the fresh air intake, if the plastic sheet wasn't there it would had dropped directly onto the air filter housing and gearbox.

My solution was to use neoprene rubber sheets with small high strength magnets glued into holes at each end, these cover the air vents perfectly and not a drop of water gets in now! (y)

Rain will of course get in. The housing under the bonnet takes the air from one side to the other to feed the heater intake. Water is supposed to drain out the bottom when the bonnet is closed. With the bonnet open, at the front edge of the housing should be drain channels. If water is getting onto the engine, these are likely to be blocked with dead leaves and similar debris. Hook out all the compost and all should be well.

No debris on my intake housing or rubber seal, in fact, my engine bay is pretty much spotless.

On the move the water is no problem as the air pressure blows it through and down the tube at the back of the intake, but when your parked up, especially on an incline, the water builds up in the housing and then starts to drip. I should add that this is despite doing the extra drain mod to the corner of the air intake.

The covers I made have completely solved the water getting in issue on my van (obviously along with the scuttle drain mods), which is a relief given all the horror stories posted on the internet that are directly linked to water ingress on the X250 Ducato vans.
