Bonnet was dented by rugby ball and young son. Looks like skin damage. Since then, cat has scratched paintwork on bonnet so now looking a bit rough. Has anyone got a silver bonnet, or any tips on how to repair? I like my Marea weekend but the kids think it is a shed on wheels. Doesn't stop them getting free rides in it tho'?

You may try to repair a dent (google: air duster dent removal) or pull it out using a strong glazier's suction cap grip.

Then polish the bonnet either by hand or using a drill mounted polishing mop.

If you don't succeed - buy a new one from scrappy.

seems the main problem here is a lack of discipline :D
when i was a kid i wouldn't have been playing ball games anywhere near my dad's car (or anyone else's for that matter). how often do you take a belt to his arse? i suggest at least once a week to keep the fear inside him.

as for the bonnet, keep an eye out at scrapyards and with a bit of luck you'll find one in the right colour. wont cost much for ascrapyard bonnet, and its cheaper and easier than repairing yours. you can open the bonnet and knock the dents out with a rubber mallet for now, and t-cut the scratches, then it wont look as bad.

Found out today that the "scratches"are in fact the lacquer peeling off. When i bought it, they did a few touch up jobs to smarten it up. There was a couple of chips on bonnet,on wing, scratches by driver side door handle, and a small dent/scratch on roof by tailgate. What can i do to stop it looking like a car owned by the "singing detective". The kids think it's a shed, and the wife is now thinking she is to good to be seen driving it! I really like my Marea, and its little foibles, such as losing the little tow hole cover on rear bumper (unless someone actually took it, theiving scumbags!), the broken ariel connection, the sticking rear tailgate handle, the falling to bits rear air vent and broken catch on console by hanbrake, which leave the cover open just so as to annoy my left elbow and the fact that when a warning light comes on you have to get it on the diagnostic machine otherwise you might start replacing wrong bits!
Caught the wife looking at a Citroen Picaso and Citroen C5 estate. Help?

as said before, best way to fix the cosmetics is with scrapyard parts, they're easy to find and cheap.

tow hole cover -£1
bonnet - £20-40
aerial - £3
rear air vent - £2

stone chips require careful use of touchup paint (buy from dealer for best colour match, approx £5)
scratches require a session with some t-cut (£9) and polish (£7).
sticking handle probably requires a squirt of wd40 (£2)

for broken catch on arm rest, take the arm rest off (2 bottom allen bolts), then take the plastic liner off (2 top allen bolts), add a screw in the hole where the pin used to be, refit the plastic liner to the armrest, then armrest to console, and there you go good as new it stays down. mine was repaired like this, it took 2 mins.

as for the diagnsotic issue, unless you buy a pre93 car you'll probably have that problem. its better than having nothing other than a symptom to go off. it makes diagnosis much easier, yes it costs, but in the good old days you still had to pay someone to diagnose it. if you could diy in the good old days you can still diy now.

to be honest all your problems can be fixed very easily and cheaply, so dont be lazy and get it sorted. (y)
