As I have mentioned before, i am in the unfortunate situation of having to let my girlfriend use my beloved HLX on a daily basis through the week. (She needs it to get to work whilst I only live 5 mins walk away from my office)

Anyway, when she parked up at her work yesterday she managed to hit the armco barrier lightly. (as only a woman could do)

The only damage is a very light dent to the bonnet just above where the bonnet meets the grille and a few small scratches. I'm not too pissed off because the bonnet had a few stone chips anyway and the dent runs evenly across the front so it almost looks as if its just the natural shape of the bonnet.

However, I want to get it sorted at some point. I think I have two options:

1. Get a new bonnet, probably second hand.

2. Get the existing bonnet repaired and repainted. I was considering getting a bodyshop to smooth over the dent and also smooth over the grille. (So the bonnet and grille is all one panel with no lines, holes or mesh)

If I go for the 2nd option, is the filler likely to be prone to cracking in time, particularly when I open/close the bonnet? What do you guys think?

Finally (sorry i'm going on a bit) how much would I be looking at for the following work at a half-decent bodyshop:

A. New bonnet fitted & painted. (If I supplied the bonnet)

B. Existing bonnet smoothed into grille and painted.

C. For fitting a bonnet vent. (Evo-style or something similar)

Please help!

PS. I DON'T SUPPOSE ANYONE IS SELLING A BONNET ARE THEY - IDEALLY IN FIAT BOREAL/WINE RED?

you can't really fill the whole grille unless you relocate the air feed as it just behind the grille.
You will end up with overheating problems.

Air feed

That shouldn't be a problem as i've got a K & N filter which has a cold air feed drawing air from the hole in the front bumper.

I'm more worried about the filler cracking.

Plus, if i'm having work on the bonnet i'd like to fit a small vent (something like a Fiesta RS turbo or Renault 19 16v Mk 1 vent) near the corner of the bonnet where the filter is located...

Re: Air feed

The smoothing will cost alot...its not a case of filling the holes, the grill will be removed and chucked away? then a metal plate welded in place making it smooth! You need a new bonnet, well let me put it differently, the cost of labour to repair it wuld be more than the cost of a bonnet, and it will probablt crack in til if it hasnt been done 100% perfect!!!

Hope i have helped in some way!

Re: Air feed

What about getting a vent fitted to a new bonnet? What costs would I be looking at?
