Bonnet Mods !

I had imagined that when I posted pics of my bonnet it would be when I'd finally had the mods done to it that I wanted, unfortunately this isn't the case !
Driving home up the M1 on saturday evening, in the middle lane doing 70ish and suddenly there's just a massive bang and I couldn't see anything !
Somehow the bonnet had come undone and was now sitting comfortably on my windscreen nicely blocking my view. I managed to get over to the hard shoulder and get the rac out who bent it back enough to click it back in place again and added a load of gaffer tape and a retaining loop of clutch cable to keep it down.
I replaced the bonnet yesterday but have kept the retaining loop on until I can buy a new catch set. There is also damage to both wings which isn't too major. My only worries are the dents in the roof, there's a little one in the centre where the bonnet hit the ariel and one slightly bigger one either side of the roof. I'm hoping that they are able to be pulled out without too much expense but I'm suspecting a high ish bill and am obviously not a happy chappy !

Apologies for the lengthy post !

Just thank god you're ok Gav. Could have been a lot lot worse. Seems to have happened to quite a few people of recent this one :(

this seems to be happening alot...hmmm...im guna invest in some bonnet lifters, they seem to save the day with only a bonnet in expense :)

Sorry couldnt hear you??

Cheers Wim, it could have been worse I guess and it does seem to be ocurring a little recently.
The catch on the slam panel is looking corroded which I think may eb ethe problem so I'm going to fit a brand spanker on there before I go back to relying on only the catch.
This should be a warning to people though, check your catches and make sure they're in good nick. I've not got a price for a catch yet but I'm sure it's cheaper than the rest of the damage this has caused and certainly cheaper than if it'd caused an accident.
As for bonnet lifters being a security measure this may be true at lower speeds but mine are noe both ripped in half from the force !

Don't suppose you've got an ariel, a spare bonnet and couple of wings knocking about as well have you - lol !

it does seem to be an epedemic! worst thing is i have a spare brand new bonnet catch but never thought i needed it (not that that was to blame with mine!)

Glad ur ok Gav bud, you had any quotes on it yet? (if you find one cheaper than i got let me know and i might drop mine there!)

Think we may need a note in the running guide to check this :s some very nicely done bravos are getting ruined it seems!

Cheers Andy, I fancy having a go at my planned bonnet and wing mods myself so that'll no doubt be a project for next year now anyway as the bonnet I've now got on is ok for now and the wings only have cosmetic damage.
Jay, we just get these old girls tarted up to how we want them and then this happens, I think it's a fiendish plan byt he jealous younger models !
