Bonnet cable snapped at the front end.
Unscrewed the lock from the car.
With a hacksaw removed 50mm of outer sheath immediately behind the plastic end fitting. You won't cut this clean so just cut a bit of the metal spiral sheath and unwind it.
The outer is now shorter so the inner extends the right amount again.
Remove the mushroom head end fitting from the lock and replace with a bicycle drilled pin cable clamp with suitable washers and nut.
Bingo all good.
 
i used to use 30amp cheese block but the mods didnt like giving explanations of how to do this in case martians came in the night and pinched your injuns or some ting:D
