Punto (Mk2/2b) Bonnet bu**ered!

Hi all, new here!

Took my Fiat Punto 1.2 8v (2005, 55 plate) to get the oil changed and guess what? Yep, the bonnet cable had snapped! It was fine last week when I checked oil and stuff! Didnt feel any different.
Anyway, Fiat want 225.00 to open the bonnet, replace the cable and the catch.
My mechanic needs to know how he can open the bonnet, then I can pay him, not Fiat, and replace the cable/catch then get my oil changed!
Does anyone have any ideas, please!

catch normally only needs cleaning and re-greasing

If the catch has gone - then get a scrappy - most have loads of life in them
