Technical Blue & me software update

Extract the zip file to a folder on your desktop first, then just copy over the files that ain't pdf manuals to the USB drive

Plug USB in and switch ignition on and it will begin to update, wait for it to say its finished and remove USB

Then back to laptop and upload the file it requires, then you will be prompted to download updates for you device.

I wasn't sure what version software mine was so I did the 5.5 first then the 5.6 after that.

Hope this helps.

re the bit in bold..... huh??

Have we installed a piece of software on the machine?? (the only windows machine I have is a work laptop which I am loathe to mess around with too much)

What tells you which file it requires??

Is there a video which runs through this?

Also - just to confirm - is the the right procedure for the older B&Me system where the radio is just a 'simple' FM/AM/CD machine in a single DIN size?? (my 500 is a 2010 Lounge)

I did it on our 09 plate with the same stereo.

I can walk you through it if you like mate

First thing format USB to FAT32 please

Might take a while - I'm only on here at random moments. ;) (will need to find a very small capacity usb drive, I don't think I have anything under 4Gb at the moment, which proved to be incompatible with the car this morning).

I'll have a go with the instructions given, I just didn't understand the bit I highlighted.

No problem, drop us a message if you need me, I'll walk you through it.

As I understand it, the first step interrogates the car and puts the answer onto your usb stick.
Then back to the computer for that to decide the correct update to download.

As said above, once the update has started, do not interrupt it. There are many posts on here about failed updates, then requiring a new Blue&Me module.

If it was mine, and working, I'd leave it alone.

If you are having problems with a recent phone not downloading phone logs and contacts, this is because the latest Bluetooth version is not backwards compatible. I found this with a new phone and my 2015 Fabia.
Deep inside the phone software (I'm talking Android here, no knowledge of iOS) you can set Bluetooth to 1.3 back from the current 1.4, then you get the contacts and phone logs.
I've no idea how this affects any music or video connections as I don't use them.

The Blue&Me downloads contacts and call log information off the phone?
That's not good, in fact that is the last thing I want happening.

All I want to do is have my sat-nav and music played through the car's ICE system, (and basic controls, eg start/stop music).

Quick question if you press CD twice do you get the option of "Aux ?

I have absolutely no idea!!

I'll try it!

So far I've tried virtually everything else....

I bought a Brodit holder for the phone today and used that USB lead to connect the phone into the car's usb port - but although I got the usual 3 options on the phone (charge/transfer files/use as MIDI device), the car didn't recognise the phone for any of them (and, weirdly, the option that allowed the phone to charge was 'use as MIDI' - which makes no sense whatsoever)

Why I ask is the earlier cars up to about late 2010 had a aux line in option via a connector on the rear, this port however maybe used by the blue and me so even if there may not come up a cheap £5 lead allows any audio input via phone etc to come through the speakers, though you have no control over the source, if your Bluetooth is useless you could unplug it from the radio and then see if that aux option is there?
So my wife can use her phone as a Sat Nav say and the voice commands come through the cars speakers over any music she's playing via her phone, in our Sept 09 car
A different option is simple replace the radio with a version giving all options? Kenwood Alpine etc

Looks like the only option will be a new head unit.
I tried the double click on the CD button but didn't get anything, regardless of what was plugged in, or not.

What format is the Aux socket? A 3.5mm coax? (like a headphone socket)

I also have a 4Gb memory stick with music on, but that only works via the blue&me button the the wheel, and then using voice commands to play. The only problem with that is that it ALWAYS starts at the beginning of the alphabetical last of tracks, and there's no shuffle option!
