Bit of advice needed on Fixed Penalty notices

Beleive it or not, the most excellent Gwent Police have sent me a Conditional Offer Of Fixed Penalty or in other words given me the chance to accept 3 points and a £60 fine for doing 95mph. This should technically be a day at court, 6 points and a big fine, so as you can imagine I am more than happy to take this.
However, I need to send my driving license off with payment to them and this is where the problem starts for me.
1. I go on holiday on the 3rd August and need my license to hire a car (which I have already paid for)
2. I have the old style paper license
3. I only have 28 days to accept this - the 28th day is the day I get back from holiday
So I cant send it away now for fear of not getting it back in time, nor can I send it off when I get back. The only thing I can think of is sending it all off to them when I have hired the car, but the post from Northern Cyprus is a bit hit an miss!
Any ideas????

That's a bitch. Was the conditional offer of a fixed penalty notice send by normal post? If so, ignore it. They will send you a letter in a few weeks later saying "send the form back or else" sort of thing. You then send them a letter saying "I didn't get a form gov" they will then send you another form, you sign it pay the dosh blah blah blah , everyone's happy.

Or ring them, but these people are not the most understanding as you probably know.

Yeah I have been trying to ring the Safety Camera Unit - its a recorded message only. It then gives you another number thats constantly engaged. I would go down there but the address is a PO Box and a postcode that doesn't seems to exist!

I'd keep trying to get through to them, maybe they would allow you to send a photocopy or something.

Phew finally got through to them and they have told me I can send it too them with payment upon my return, so long as it gets to them by 27th August. I LIKE the Gwent Police :)

Honestly mate, you would not meet a person as happy as I am to receive a 3 point fixed penalty!!

Nige,
You only need the paper part of your licence anyway as we disregard the card section at the moment,

Basicaly if turn up as soon as practicable after your holiday ie the first day etc take with you proof of hiring the car and holiday etc they will accept that as the time allowance proposed was inpracticable!

If in doubt ring the ticket/penalty clerk at the address where it states to be posted to

best regards have a good hol

Thanks Sy, done the contact bit. They said send it when I get back and its gone on record that I rang in.

Re: in hull

I can't get any points now having 9 on my license. (They removed 6 when I got my license back)

Nige, you are lucky my friend. :)

Re: in hull

Glad to hear you got fixed up ok nige, but just incase anyone has a similar problem, I actually went to cyprus last year and we had pre booked a hire car and when we got there, I found out I had forgotten my licence!! However they just said to fax a copy to the hotel (my sone was at home) and they accepted that.

On driving in cyprus, they are all really ;aid back, no speeding or road rage, one hand out the window, one on the radio, and any spare hand is for steering:) Just be aware thet the average driver does not use indicaters, either for pulling in or pulling out

Re: in hull

I took my license, but they never asked for it...lol

Patrick, I am going to Northern Cyprus - there's no roads either! in great quantity, hence hiring Vitara!

Nige, i got a ticket last week. I was on a dual carriageway, and it changed to a 50 zone from a 70. 100yds inside the 50 zone an unmarked police car right behing clocked me. He showed me the footage in the car. I got done for doing 68.1mph in a 50 zone 3points & £60.

Anyway, the point was, i'm going to spain in a fortnight, and told him that. He told me that if i went to the council office in person, with my license, and paid cash, they'd endorse it immediately, and it'd take only 15 minutes. Myabe this is a viable option for you?
