If i am going to replace the engine in my 1.6 Bravo, what is the biggest engine i can put in it and from what car.

its all about how much money you have. anything is possable with enough money

id suggest a 2.0 20v turbo from a coupe or you could have a go at a 2.4jtd

i'm not sure a 2.4 JTD will go in personally, and if you did, you've got fuel pump, fuel lines and tank to replace also.

you can get 250 from a 2.0 5 pot coupe turbo engine no sweat. how much more could you want in a bravo?

theres also the question of the cars handling with the weight a 2.4 JTD up front. At a totally random guess i'd say that puts over 2 thirds of the cars weight in front of the driver... and that really cant be good!

if you go for the 20v turbo you will have to uprate the WHOLE front end i.e wings bonnet bumper drive shafts etc. why not just buy a HGT its going to be a lot cheaper

Most common is the Coupe 20V Turbo Engine. However the biggest engine you can fit in a Bravo is from a Lancia Kappa 2.4. Also the JTD 2.4 should fit but as Buzz mentioned above fuel tank, lines, etc all need replacing.

A little proof of the Lancia 2.4 Engine...

Depends on what model HGT.

The early ones were 147bhp, whilst the later were 154bhp.

2l 16v turbo from the fiat coupe should be the most straight-forward to go in a 1.6 + there's one going in nearby thread

Seen the 1 in nearby thread, but unfortunately im not ready to do the swap yet, also would be looking for something a bit closer to Glasgow aswell. but depending on the cost of the engine along with the fitting cost, and the hike in insurance, im defo up for having it done.

watch this space....

and just who are you then?

Kev, i honestly think a coupe 20v turbo is your best bet... more than that and you'll have a hell of a time driving it! The bravo really isn't suited to silly amounts of power through the front wheels. I only have 120bhp and i get understeer galore(its those new bloody yoko's hehe) And as i said with the 2.4 JTD, the theory is nice, but the balance of the car would be just wrong...

short of the coupe turbo swap, i reckon you could pick up a nice alfa 156 2.4 JTD, or a fiat coupe for even less. Nige is selling one with um, 250bhp i think?

re

what was the ferrari engine that was in a lancia thema? i reckon thats the biggest one that might fit!

but somethign like an alfa 3ltr v6 i reckon should go in

with any of these fitting isnt the hardest part its normally the wiring etc

If the numbers are correct the Marea JTD130 is lighter than the Coupe 20vt.

who was it had a Lancia Intrgrale V8 that couldn't be bothered to finish the install in his brava. That u buzz?

Nico you might be thinking of Allan Wall with the silver Brava? Although a Lancia engine, I don't think its a V8 - think his is a 8v (don't know the engine size) block.

has common problem of leaking oil round the cam case gaskets and was too expensive for me to run everyday so is off the road at the moment!

That's all narners boyos' what you need is this guys 1.6 reno engine ;)

re

i dont think 7.2 to 60 is amazingly quick? not slow but not quick?

It is if you consider...

HGT with 154hp does it in 7.7
Clio sport with 182hp does it in 7.0
Seat Leon with 225hp does it in 7.0
Mini Cooper S with 160hp does it in 7.2
