Hi

I'm finishing my uno turbo and was wondering what would be needed to get it over 200bhp, i have had the engine rebuilt with new pistons, main bearings, shells etc. it has a lightened balance bottom engine, piper cam, ported cylinder head etc

I am going to get hold of a DTA management and some bigger injectors (saab 9000) and a front mount intercooler,

what turbo would be needed to get some serious power? and what is limit the engine can produce whilst keeping it road worthy?

could 300bhp be acheived?

300HP is too much. 250 is achieveable although you my have some reliability problems on a standard engine. 200-220 should be sweet. You'll need around 20psi boost. Is it a 1.3 or 1.4?

Some sort of hybrid will be best to keep it driveable. A T28 size turbo with small A/R turbine will work.
TDO4H 15T
GT28R

That is a seriously neat looking Uno you've got there :yum:. A 300bhp Uno would be an absolute monster :D Even if you could get to 300bhp would the car be able to put that amount of power down on the road without mincing your tyres?

Out of interest does your mk1 have sill covers like the mk2?

yes my mk1 has sideskirts just like a mk2, cant really see them in the picture but they are there,

mines a 1301 cc,

I am looking for 200+ but i only have a Hybrid turbo T2 with T25 internals? i dont really know much about turbo's sorry.

not really bothered about how it will put it down but it'll grip at some point lol.

hi i restored mine 3 years ago and havent had it out since. punto turbine, super strada cam, full scorpion and k+n just no fuel increase. can anyone lead me in the right direction..? :)

im running 170bhp and that is enough the wheels just spin exspecially when coming out of corner eat my tyres up . its mental 200bhp theres no point in my eyes it will just spin up make it 4x4 that would be smooth

To 4x4 a car isnt an easy task i can tell you!

300 BHP isnt the figure to bang on about
its the torque that matters, as BHP is tha result of torque, torque it will always matter as its what an engine produces

I will be aiming for 250-270 FLBS out of my 1372cc UT engine
I think i wont need much to make it extreamly quick but i personally am sticking to strict parameters or i will look like a hypocrit!

Wether i hit that mark is another question but if you are aiming for that then you have to seriously think about it

But who here would'nt love to have a FWD car that would wheelspin at 100mph in the fast lane?

lol................... not me! :D

The only consumable that would be a regular purchase other than fuel (97 octane).........................will be tyres!

Every area of the engine is gona require alot of thort to hopefully pull it off

But thats just the start!! lol

Drivetrain:
Gearbox (Gears, diff, bearings, synchros + hubs, etc, etc)
Driveshafts
C.V joints
etc
etc

Electronics:
ECU
Sensors
etc
etc

Shell:
Cage
Seam-welding
etc
etc

Its gona take alot but its my aim over the next year!

I dont smoke, drink or do drugs...........but itll kill me just as quickly! lol

More than 160 bhp in a car as light as a Uno with no traction control or LSD is total :nutter:

As Dunc's sig used to say, "wheelspin in third gear anyone?" :D

IF you have grip, 160 bhp is really not nearly enough for Uno, it even feels a bit slow. The fun begins after 200 bhp.

Rainy day (1301cc - 239hp/314Nm):

Here in Finland I know couple of guys who have fitted 2.0 16v TC engines with turbo in their Unos and in those cases you could say that the car is a bit too powerful, but only a bit...

wooooohaaaaaaa!!! man, that is exactly what im aiming for! spin, spin, spin and more spin! love how it lights the tyres up so easily in 4th! lol :D :D

soooooo gonna go for 250+ bhp this winter :D

Dunc

i had my UT spinning up at 5mph once! lol
Coming out of a hill pull-away in the wet............i was like why is it doin 5,000?? lol

Now you see, if you had a Stilo Abarth with ASR as standard, you would have seen the little light blinking merrily as the computer braked each spinning wheel in turn... ;)

ASR with ESP, ABS with EBD... Rain-sensing wipers and automatic lights, reversing sensors and a stereo phone that rings... these are a few of my favourite things!

Way too many 3-letter words on cars nowadays!

"Mate, you ABC is blinking!!"
"****.............wheres my DEFG gone?"
lol

My tyres were soooo poooo its untrue!
I used to change lanes using the throttle (in 3rd) :D
damm i miss those days!:(

Look, this is my idea of getting to that magic 200bhp figure.

Uprated Sachs clutch
Std (top change) gearbox
Ported/polished head.
Straight through exhaust system
Pipercross filter (a K&N should do OK...)
Uprated camshaft (whatever profile suits your style of driving, I guess)
5th injector
1.6BAR boost
97 octane shell optimax petrol
adjustable fuel:air ratio (powerboost valve) - have it set for the 97 octane petrol.
Big turbo, intercooler 3 or 4 times bigger than std one.

You should be able to get there with all this.
If that ain't enough... go for a lightened and balanced flywheel (you can take so much off the flywheel it's effectively making the car power like it weighs 30kg less! any more than this will make it quite undriveable)
forged pistons, forged conrods, adjustable cam pulley set up on Rolling Road, 6th injector, uprated fuel pump, upto 2.0BAR boost (through adjustable boost controller - I'm guessing!)
THAT should be how to get near 260bhp out of your Uno Turbo with the right turbo. Although I'm not sure exactly how much torque you'll get out of it. depending on the turbo it should be just below the amount of BHP.

If I was going for mad power, i'd get custom made driveshafts, really sticky tyres, T3 turbocharger, the gearbox strengthened and rebuilt with longer gear ratios, big ass intercooler, battery in boot, cold air box installed with pipercross or similar air intake.

Remember things like spark plugs, too. NGKs should do.

Their 7 series should be good for road or fast road, 8 series are for even more power... if you can get em.

That's about all I can think of with normal modifications for a MK1 (1301cc) engine.

I believe you can get 300bhp out of an Uno Turbo engine, I think Jens managed it with a fooking HUGE turbo. I don't know what Khalil Camann's white wide arched Uno (not in England) was running at, but it was pretty damn powerful.

Someday I'll build a truly terrifying Uno Turbo engine. =)
