i own a 1.6 16v SX, does anyone know the standard BPH and also any cheap and easy ways to increase it?

103 bhp.

Big bore exhaust and induction kit may increase it to 110bhp.

Re: Re: BHP

103BHP, no easy ways to get more.

Induction kit, decat, new exhaust, new maifold should get you a couple more.

Re: Re: Re: BHP

whats the bhp pf a 1.4 12v then??

cheers!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

Ribzz's 1.6 is pushing the high 120's now

Thats with an air filter, four branch, de-cat and exhaust.

Nitrous is always an option don't forget ;)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

sorry im going to sound like a girl now but whats a four branch?
Is NOS street legal? Have to look out for these things, im a special contsable so i can get off driving fast but not really having illegal things in the car.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

A nitrous oxide kit is technically street legal, but I dont know where you'd get insurance from. If you did, it will cost a small fortune too. Also, your engine would last about 15 minutes.

Bear in mind that the increased insurance premiums will also be quite high - is it worth all the expense and sacrificing the ongevity of your engine for those extra few bhp's?

I don't think so, but if you want to, have a go.

My 1.6 16v was quite lively once above 4000rpm. Incidentally, I was rather disappointed with my 155 HGT's performance, especially in the low/mid rev range.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

Thats one of the limitations of 16v engines, little low/mid range torque. If you want low/mid range best bet is a tubro diesel, or if you can afford the petrol costs a nice V8, last one i had was 15mpg.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

The 1.2 16V is 82Bhp standard.
The 1.4 12V is 80Bhp standard.
The 1.6 16V (Mk1) is 100Bhp standard?
The 1.6 16V (Mk2) is 103Bhp standard.
The 1.8 16V (Mk1) is 113Bhp standard.
The 1.8 16V (Mk2) is 115Bhp standard.
The 2.0 20V (Mk1) is 147Bhp standard.
The 2.0 20V (Mk2) is 154Bhp standard.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

The four branch is simply an exhaust manifold.

Dunno about Nitrous being street legal, I'm pretty sure its illegal to even have it plumbed in on a street car ?????????????

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

Found this on the web.

Is Nitrous Oxide Legal ?
Having a nitrous oxide system installed in your car is not illegal. Akamoto provide these kits to our customers for the use of off road events and shows that are hosted on private land. However Injecting nitrous oxide into your engine in whilst driving on a public road can not really be commented on as we can not find any law against this but at the same time we cant find one that permits it. So we recommend keeping the bottle turned off until you're in a suitable surrounding to inject nitrous oxide, e.g. drag strip.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

If you fail to tell your insurance company about nitrous then use it on the road you could be in big trouble. Nitrous is not illegal but driving without insurance is.

Very very few insurance companies will insure you with nitrous, most of them will only do it for offroad use and require you to remove the bottle from the car when its on road.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

Jonas, I'd take the power figures given by the Rev Bob Toss show for Ribzz car with a big pinch of salt. It was done for a TV show and are no-doubt grossly over estimated. They did not say what the power was at the wheels and you don't know if they did a gearbox loss test or simply added some random % to get the final figure.

They might have said 126BHP but if it shows 105 at the wheels there is no way a bravo gearbox can sap 20%.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

Tom.. it's Fiat remember.

I wouldn't be at all suprised if it sap'd 50% of power. lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

Tom, was it at the wheels??, I can't remember to be honest, Ribzz is on holiday but I know a few others who were on the show, I'll see if they were given BHP at the fly or not?

Matt

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

It won't be 126 at the wheels. My guess is his car is running 110 to 115BHP at the flywheel.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

So playing dumb:

Are FIATS quotes of 103 BHP at the fly or at the wheels ?

I can't believe all the mods on Robs car would make such a small difference, I'll need to challenge him with my totally standard 16v to check now :)

Matt

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

most, if not all manufacturers quote flywheel figures.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: BHP

Jonas don't forget Rob has a nos kit in there think they are 75-100bhp jets, he'd run out of road/strip before you got anywhere near
