the fuel consumption of my 2003 115jtd was showing on average 35mpg which i considered to be 'a bit' poor and pulling away it took forever for the turbo to spool up and i had to be carefull of overtaking because of the lack of performance , so i finally decided to whip the egr valve off and git it a clean (been putting it off for weeks) all it took was a few basic tools 13mm spanner , 10mm socket , t25torx bit and an allen key that i cant remember the size of and 40 minutes of my time , when it was off i plit the valve in half gave it a scrub with a small nylon brush then a blast with some brake cleaner then another scrub with the brush and a blast of commpressed air with a can that my wife uses to clean her keyboard at work to get rid of any risdual soot that was left put it back toghether and took it for a 20minute-ish drive , my god what a difference the turbo spools up about 4-500rpm quicker the performance is much improved but more importantly , or at least to me , is the fuel consumption it's gone from an indicated 35mpg to an indicated 49mpg on the lcd read out which i find amazing  , not sure if the lcd is playing only time will tell i suppose  i am so glad i've got another multipla and got rid of the crappy pug 307hdi i had a brief encounter with by far the worst car i have ever owned (n)
