After the whining from the bottom corner of the engine has now turned into some horrendous grinding noise, I guess it's time to change the air con/aux belts & tensioners. I found a pretty sweet guide on fccuk on how to do it step by step, and how to make the special allen key, but if anyone else has any helpful advice and tips it would be much appreciated! :D

Haven't seen the guide your referring too.
But Our guide here may have the steps explained in a different manner. so that parts unclear in one may be clearer in the other.

This is the guide I found:http://www.fccuk.org/documents/howtoguides/Auxiliarybeltsandtensionerschangefor20v.pdf

As you said bits not clearly understood in one may make sense in another, looks like a farily straightfoward job to be honest. (lets hope!) ;)

I changed belt, water pump, tensioner and thermostat and hoses in March. It was a doddle on my sons Mk1 Punto. One of the easiest car engines I have ever worked on.

it is buddy. I couldn't be arsed to make the elongated 8mm hex key as used in the fccuk guide, so I searched on eBay for one and found a 8mm with a bit more length on the handle, so just waiting for it to come through. Is there anything that you can't find on eBay?!
Once it's arrived i'll get started, my best mate is a mechanic so is gonna assist (by that i mean he will do most the work and i will talk him through the guide.) :)

That doesn't sound too good hellcat, can you still get the pulleys?

And when you cant get the tensioner off, put the nut back on, a turn or two loose, take a hacksaw blade and....(just use compressed air to get the bits off the crank pulley, or use rag).
Had a stuck troughbolt on the camside engine mount, waterpump also needed to come out the bottom way.
