Guys my 1.6 active has no plastic guard under the engine (long story) so in the wet going through puddles water gets up onto the alternator belt which then slips and squeals until it drys off. This has been happening alot recently due to the weather, when it happens the headlights dim and i assume it draws more from the battery. Now today the engine fault light comes on when driving along. There is no obvious difference in the car, engine sounds fine accelerates fine, i have had coil packs go before and this doesnt sound or feel like one. Could the engine fault be related to the belt slipping?

im pretty sure the 1.6 has a stretch belt fitted... i dont think it should squeal or affect alt. performance... id replace it if i were you! both my arch liners are shot and i have no under tray but i don't have this issue in wet weather altho that being said i keep out of the way of standing water...
