For about 6 months I've been putting my "difficulties" down to the bang on the head I had in May.

However, things are getting worse, not better at the moment.

It's silly thing. On some days I struggle with the most basic arithmetic, or my spelling may be shot to pieces, or I struggle to write without it looking like a spider has crawled across the page.. For example, a couple of days ago I copied an address onto an envelope, only to read it afterwards and of the 5 lines ib the address, 3 of them had spelling mistakes in.

Another example is if I'm having a conversation with somebody, I know what I'm trying to say to them, I can hear the sentance in my head, but the words will not come out of my mouth, jusy silence.

I've mentioned it to the quacks but they seam to take very little notice of what I saying, maybee it's just parts of "getting old", but I'm only 37 for god sake.

early symptons of Alzheimer’s tends to be more assoicated with memory, but differently. The problems you describe seem more cognative.

If you have a look at this chart;

SIGNS OF NORMAL CHANGE VS. EARLY ALZHEIMER’S SYMPTOMS

Normal: Can’t find your keys
Alzheimer’s: Routinely place important items in odd places

Normal: Search for casual names and words
Alzheimer’s: Forget names of family and common objects

Normal: Briefly forget conversation details
Alzheimer’s: Frequently forget entire conversations

Normal: Can’t find a recipe
Alzheimer’s: Can’t follow recipe directions

Normal: Forget to write down a check
Alzheimer’s: Can no longer manage checkbook

Normal: Cancel a date with friends
Alzheimer’s: Withdraw from usual interests

Normal: Miss an occasional right turn
Alzheimer’s: Get lost in familiar places

Is there any history of early-onset Alzheimer’s in your family? It is rare, and normally associated with genetics.

Another example is if I'm having a conversation with somebody, I know what I'm trying to say to them, I can hear the sentance in my head, but the words will not come out of my mouth, jusy silence

That sounds more related to the bang on the head. I remember watching a programme about brain injuries, and there was a guy on there who was having this kind of issue but on much more widespread scale. I'll have a think, and see if i can find the programme or more information about it.

Is the microwave considered an "odd" place to leave keys?:bang:

Only if you don't switch it on! :p

On a serious note, as has been mentioned Alzheimers is more associated with short term memory impairment. What you are describing sounds more cognitive. Might be worth asking your doctor to refer you to a neurologist? If you are having trouble speaking the words that you want to say a speech and language therapist (SALT) may also help.

Good luck and hope it's nothing serious (y)

There are over one hundred forms of dementia, and Alzheimer's is only one of them. And it can't be accurately diagnosed without a post mortem.

But on a lighter note: you sound like you might just be very tired. Combine exhaustion with stress and you'll have all the symptoms mentioned.

I put stuff down in the most random places when I'm not concentrating.

I'll be using a screwdriver and finish with it and just hold on to it walk somewhere and put it on like a book shelf or something stupid.

Sometimes it takes me like 10 mins to find stuff and I find it and think "at what point did I think it would be a good idea to put that there".

It depends if you are doing these kind of things daily in normal situations or not that often when you are disctracte I suppose.

I occasionaly have moments when i forget words, or cant add up. sometimes i just stop whilst mid sentence and then start again. I usually find it after a weekend of not much sleep. I'm eating much more sugars (from fruits) now than before and not suffering to bad. late nights down the pub arent helping me either.

The phone rang in my flat once and I tried answering the remote control and wondered why nobody was there. Is that odd?

Seriously though, it does not sound like Alzheimers. There are many conditions that can induce memory loss and confusion. And forgetting how to add up is not a sign of the A word? The things you describe almost seems more like signs of dyslexia:

Just a thought - but if you are unhappy with the support from your doctor, try seeking advice from another one.

this is how my grandma is progressing

start with she could not stay at home like she used to when my grandad was not there
so my grandad added a reason ie tv a bottle of wine and ironing
this worked for a few weeks then she started going out again
5 nights a week or something daft going into pubs even i wouldn't go in
she always came back
this continued for a while then she stopped going to the pubs as much (luckily)
but unlucky for my mum started going to the pub with my mum on days she would not normally go
combined with dropping drinks over people (arthritis and bad eye sight)
now she has stopped doing this (while doing this she was buying many items the same when shopping (shopping list time) and gone back to her old routine but started wandering all the time going for walks. so she got a job leafleting and grandad give her a basic set of directions to the location. unfortunately she leafleted all of Leeds and so quit the job also fell out with the guy a little

(wandering is a symptom next one is she will get lost)

so this went on for a while then she got some tablets before winter and she has stopped wandering all the time and just going out to get things minor things but it is possible to convince her not to go.

Just buy the Abarth 500. Clearly it's taking up a lot of your mental energies trying to decide. Buy and free up your brain to go back to processing life normally :)

Re: Begining To Think I May Have Alzheimer’s

How bad was your bang to the head? And which part of the head was it?

I had a fairly low impact crash a few years ago, but damaged the left frontal lobe of my brain and had very similar symptoms. Although they did present themselves a couple of days after the crash when the brain started to swell.
They were very bad at first and I had to re-learn a lot. And my sleeping increased. But during the healing period, I had much the same as you are discribing.

It would be worth making a diary of each time you get stuck and each time you realised you've done something out of the ordinary (might help if loved ones could fill it in with you, as they may notice things you dont) and go back to docs and ask for referal/scan.

Fractured skull in several places requiring titanium plate, smashed orbital floor requiring titanium reconstruction, fractured nasal bone, smashed cheek bone requiring plating with titanium, various other more minor fractures, damaged maxillary nerve.

Jeez - I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope that they have all been caught and brought to some sort of justice.
