I think my battery is on the way out (n)

First start in the morning is sluggish, accompanied by a loud clicking from the starter area and the panel warning lights come back on for a second or two after its fired up.

I use a CTEK charger but the battery soon loses charge.

Qubo was registered on 30 January 2011 but the sticker near the battery is dated 1 April 2010. Other info on the sticker is FI.TO.PE.CI MAKO Turkey. Battery capacity is marked as 50Ah 250IEC 430SAE and it's 200mm long, which seems a bit small.

When I look for a replacement on Euro Carparts, their Qubo batteries are bigger at 246mm (it fits, I've checked (y)) with ratings from 56Ah to 64Ah. Exide EA640 seems best value at £63.22 with discount and a 4 year guarantee.

Anyone changed theirs

Make sure it's the correct battery for the car as I've got stop start and the battery for that is a lot more expensive!

P.s I suspect you know all this and I apologise if it seems I'm teaching granny to suck eggs ( hope you've heard that expression before!)

If the Exide one will fit, and you don't have stop/start, go for it.

From the info given, battery was over 6 months old when first used, so it has lasted well. I would have expected it to die last year.

Ensure new one is fresh, usually is from Euro, and it can be expected to last 4-7 years. Or more!

Thanks portland_bill, I fitted the Exide Premium battery this morning and the difference is amazing! (y)

Engine starts quicker, central locking is more positive and Qubo seems brighter and more responsive :D.

I suppose it's not surprising really as the original battery was over 4 years old, rated at 50Ah with 430 Cold Cranking Amps. The new one is bigger but fits perfectly, rated at 64Ah with 640 CCA.

Battery deterioration happens so gradually you don't really notice it, but I can't remember the old one ever being as good as this, even when it was new.

I used a PP3 9V battery clipped to the leads during change-over to prevent any loss of settings.

The battery you require is an 027 available anywhere ,get a heavy duty one as it is a diesel
Go to halfords they have a good range.dont buy a Mickey Mouse one it will be expensive in the end

Mad One: i also have start-stop. it rarely works. does yours have same problem? i believe start-stop takes an input of the battery charge level and, if the battery is a bit low and taking a charge, the start stop wont work. when i bought my car i immediately left the country and the car sat for about 6 months, being started occasionally by the wife's brother. so maybe my battery is always "tired".

i might take it to the dealer and see if theyll replace it the car still is under warranty.

does you start stop work upon starting your car each day?

Car batteries need regular use. Leaving it for that long with only occasional starting will have done it a lot of harm. It will as you've guessed always be below full capacity, and there is no way to revive it. That is why your Stp/start rarely operates. The battery will have a short life, probably no more than 3 years. If the dealer is willing to replace it then good luck, but if they have anyone that can diagnose it properly, they will lift the lid, look inside and see the sulphation and refuse any warranty. Best not to tell them you left it for 6 months, just tell them the stop/start is reluctant.
