if you were to play your car sound system whilst the engine was off but the ignition was on would this use any fuel and also would it damage the engine or battery?

If engine is off it wont be using fuel. However it may drain your battery. All depends on what sound system you have. If you simply have a bog standard head unit it should drain too much. iIf you have a fair big amp etc etc being powered too expect your battery dead after a couple of tunes.

it wont use any fuel, but it will drain ur battery. i had it in my old car, had my car off but ignition on and my sub drained my battery. it started up but when i drove up the road and then switched it off, it didnt start back up...left it for 10 minutes then it started up and it was fine after that.

Yeah, i had my music on while i was cleaning my car, (bog standard stereo) and after a couple of hours it went dead.
Good job i was facing down a hill or jump starting the car would have been very hard!
