I have a Fiat Ducato 2.3 JTD from 2003. I fitted a new Dynamo but after a few starts my battery is dead ? The ABS light came on and the Airbag light came on?

The Van drives great and the engine is in top order. If anyone has a reason why the battery is not getting charged with this new Dynamo I would very much appreciate the advice.

One small note .... the battery light does not come on,it did before I fitted the new Dynamo? now that the new Dynamo is fitted only the ABS and Airbag light are highlighted.

If theres a problem with the d+ circuit the alternator may not start generating, is there a split charge relay for something connected into it?

What corcai said..
Or in other words the alternator need an electrical jolt/signal to excite it ie get it charging, If the ignition/battery idiot lamp is not lighting up when the key is turned then this needs to be investigated/sorted.

on another note ive found in many vehicles a poor earth will cause the abs airbag light to come on fiat included

Was looking at an ex ambulance ducato, it had two extra earth straps one to each engine mounting and and an extra earth from the negative terminal to the body that must be 50mm2 cable. They were taking no chances :)
