This may be a trivial question but I just wanted to check there was no obvious reason not to charge the vehicle battery using the +ve lug and suitable earth point under the bonnet. Reason: to charge up using portable solar panel when wild camping.

It will work. The only thing I would beware of is that if a fault develops in your solar charger or its wires there is nothing much to stop an extremely high current being delivered from the battery via the jump-start lug. To avoid this risk, I suggest an inline fuse is fitted in the charger cable immediately behind the positive crocodile clip. Choose a fuse rated at about double the maximum expected solar charging current.
