Hi from Croatia,
Recently I have bought a 500L (year 2015) and for a few days haven't noticed any problems. One day I tried to start the car in the morning, and it wouldn't start because of a flat battery. I have changed the battery and in two days everything was fine and on the third day the same thing. I went to the mechanic and he said the alternator is the problem, and he changed it. Few days everything was fine and then the same thing, flat battery.
I have connected a voltmeter in a lighter plug and measured a battery voltage for a few days and noticed that for some reason the alternator stops battery charging and the voltage drops below 12,00 V.
There are no warnings or errors appear on a dash board and a car is running OK even with a battery voltage below 11,00V. Just if I switch off the engine at that point I can't start it again. At that point, the only thing that helps is disconnecting some sensor and a negative battery terminal (I think it is called a battery sensor). When I connect it again, charging starts and battery voltage goes between 13,7 to 14,1 V, and stays like that while I'm driving.
I thought that the problem was with that sensor, so I changed it, but nothing changed, all the same thing.
Can anyone help me with advice? What else to check? I do not have any more ideas??
Does anyone know how this charging works?
Car has a START/STOP system, but I have switch it OFF on a button
