Sorry to start another thread on this matter but can I check a question that I have?

What are the sizes of the B's speakers?
Main
Small (tweeters)

I want to replace them at some point and want to know if anybody has experience of different set ups. I know the Infinity 6010's are popular but are there other good alternatives? I am not thinking of installing an amp - I basically want to take out the existing speakers and replace with an upgrade.

Just go with the Infinion 6010c, they fit with a little bit of juggling and cope well without the need for amps etc. From memory the base units are 6" and the tweeters about 1.5".

The foot well speakers are 6.3/4 in size. best thing is to remove one and take it with you. There is limited space behind them. I bought some years ago that were to deep. Also I woudl advise some acoustic sheeting behind them to give a better sound.

The woofers are 17cm diameter (6,5 inch)
and the tweeters are the same for all speakers.

Don't look for anything high end cause as nino said the depth is limited.

As far as I know the crossover splits the audio signal coming out of the head unit into high and low sound. The high is sent to the tweeters and the low to the big speakers. The tweaters fit nicely behind the dash on the transmission tunnel.

I've also put Infinitys in the sub box at the back where there's no space for tweeters so I left out the crossovers there and connected the head unit directly to the big speakers with no tweeters.

The sound is really good with this setup and I'd recommend it(y)

I can't really find the 6010c's. I don't really understand the crossover because surely there is something splitting the signal already in the B. Could you not just add replacement tweeters?

The 6010s are as you said discontinued ;) Have you checked eBay?

6010cs
Type: 6-1/2" 2-Way Component System
Speaker Impedance: 4 Ohms
Power Handling: 90W RMS, 270W Peak
Frequency Response: 53Hz – 21kHz
Sensitivity (2.83V, 1m): 92dB
Crossover Frequency: 3.5kHz
Mounting Depth: Woofer: 2-1/16" (53mm)
Tweeter: 5/8" (16mm)
Cut-out Diameter: Woofer: 5" (127mm)
Tweeter: 1-3/4" (45mm)

So, if you are looking for something else, try to keep the dimensions, certainly the depth to the specs above. Although i *think* you can go to 56mm depth for the woofer.
You *can* go much deeper, but that would require to install spacers which makes life needlessly complicated.

Hope this helps
And: the user manual attached :)

PS: i think the Alpines with the same dimensions ARE actually Infinity's :)

Here in Cyprus there is some really good stereo fitters. Modding cars over here is very high.

I have approached a guy who has looked at the B setup and is planning a new speaker install for me.

I have asked for the cosmetics not to be changed and so he has found me some exellent speakers and tweeters that will fit straight in.

He will also be making me a new rear shelf with speakers which will be instaled between my rear roll bars and also double up as a wind stop. (y)

I,m not sure of the brand at the moment as i,m waiting for some price feedback and to be booked in.

As soon as i have found out, i will let you guys know.

near fuel tank? there is enough place there.

Right! The brand of speakers to be used are MB Quarts, much better than the infinitys i have been told.

They are apparently used in high end competition cars.
Havent a price as of yet though.

Just googled mb quart and found these two components, seem to fit the description he might use.

Thanks for all the help. Can I just confirm how the original speaker set up works? I take it that there are no crossover boxes installed, so how does the original tweeter work?

I may run to a Infinitys but wanted to see if I could buy separate speakers and tweeters without the crossover box hassle.

i assume the tweeter has a high pass filter installed on it.

that's how my pioneer speakers work
