Hello all.
Well its been ages but ive got my new engine in, and had the perfect excuse to get it back on the road, i had to work early and the wife needed our other car.
So first thing in the morning got the car running, set off and noticed that when i accelarate theres a loud bang it sounds like somethings moving and hitting. I decided to turn round and abort. Just after i turned round, the wheel fell off.
Anyway long story short, ive put the wheel back on, packed the drive shafts with grease but the knock/bang is still there.
Im having a look at it today, going to check the exhaust and all engine mounts, but is there anything else anyone can think i need to check?

Also a little warning, dont put 10mm spacers on with standard bolts, if i hadnt decided to turn back, 2 mins later id have been on a busy motorway.

10mm on standard bolts seems like abit much, iirc the standard bolts are good for around 5mm tops to be on the safe side

Might aswell check the top mounts lower arm bushes and ball joints and the track rod ends.

Me:D
And it only took about 3 months too. Pritty good going i think.:p
Its the first time ive done an engine and i think i made every nooby error, learn by mistakes seems to be the only way i seem to do things. But couldnt justify the 150 quid the garage wanted to do it. 3 months later and a wheel less im starting to thik it wasnt bad calue really.

Hi Guys

Don't be cruel, my mate a pro engineer, in a large company, rebuilt his Gulf GTI convertible engine, took GTI for MoT 880 yards to MoT garage, it needed MoT cause it had taken him 18months.

He did not make it cause the gear box seized before he had got there, he had forgotten to replace the oil.

P.S.
a) If you fit an 10mm extender fit bolts 10mm longer, the stress on the bolts and the bearings, may be a lot larger.
b) If you don't tell the ins company, a complete list of non standard parts, you are not insured. If the insurance company engineer does not think it was a safe vehicle cause of modification or poor maintenance then you are still not insured, if the wheel fell off it could be considered prima fasciae evidence.

Theres a garage next to my works, so ill get them to give it the once over. Ill be keeping my eyes open for the abarth studs, i shouldnt have sold my standard 13", i perfer them to the abarth ones and because ive got the 6 speed box, truning right ive got maybe half a turn before the wheels rubbing. Not great.

ayup mate, I've not sorted the wing yet, going to get a pair of wings, then I'll need the wings, spoiler and skirts sorting out. tempted to just give you the car for a week or so.
I'll be keeping the bonnet incase I get bord of the rusty one.

See Craig's thingy in the Guides about lock stops. I keep telling everyone that the Abarth wheels are pants -- 5.5J gives crappy tyre choice -- but they keep fitting them. 6 speed box is likely to be a liability, too.
