As I go up long hills in my Marea its performance decreases rapidly. I'm running the engine at 5000rpm but only doing 30mph and dropping down a gear or two has no effect what so ever. The acceleration of the car is also sluggish but does pick up after a short while. I have tried a thread of this before but drawn a blank.
Any offers to the problem and solution.

Doing 30mph at 5000rpm in which gear ?

Sounds like your clutch is slipping.

Maybe, but he did say 5000rpm @30mph dropping down a gear or two has no effect what so ever.

Found the old post.

My Marea 1.9JTD is not performing well especially as I go up a hill. The power in the engine dwindles as I go up hills and I have to go down a gear. However, the is no noticeable increase in power - the car just gets slower and slower. Even if the engine is reving at 4,000-5,000 rpm it makes no difference.

The car is a 51 plate and done 55,000. Are their known issues with this engine? Can anyone help.

Can anyone recommend a good FIAT garage near to Newton Abbot, Devon.

Thanks

My first guess would be that the intercooler is somehow obstructed, with the result that it gets progressively hotter as the car climbs the hill. When this happens, the intake charge temperature will increase and power will start to drop off.
