Technical Bad starter

My 1.9 non turbo struggles to start when cold, battery & starting motor seem fine, any ideas ?

Glow plugs, injector leak off pipes,
Air filter, fuel filter. Compression.

What year is it?
How many miles on clock?
Has it been serviced properly?

05, 60k, service last year & just passed MOT no problem, does have small oil leak from somewhere & chucks out loads of black smoke when it does start

Also drives with no problems, will sit @ 70 on motorway

on last service were the air and fuel filters changed?


check glow plugs first.


do you wait for glow plug light to go out before trying to start?


try waiting for glow plug light to go out then switch off and give it another glow cycle .

I do wait for light to go out, this morning it took 3 times to start so maybe glow plugs , will try later

hi,

cycle the glow plugs.. several heat cycles ..

THEN attempt to crank the engine..


if it helps..it's worth changing plugs..
