Technical Bad Earth

Can any one tell me best way you earth a car as the earth has gone some were so I put jump lead on the negative on battery n then to the engine n it started any way how I can sort this s h i t out as it's doin my head in with out a car it's a 1.2 gp

Factory spots are good, replace only the cable.

The name earth is common in the car world shortened from negative earth...but it isn't the same as the domestic electrical set up

The cable that has gone is the black one from the battery to the chassis leg onto the gear box and needs replacing
