A relation`s daughter, while driving her Punto down a narrow street, touched mirrors with a BMW parked on double yellow lines. She didn`t think much of it at the time, but while she was at camp (she`s in the R.A.F), she received a summons for failing to stop, failing to report an accident and careless driving. She was fined £500 And 10 points. That was before last Xmas. Meanwhile, she`s been to do her bit in the Iraq war, and has just got back. She rang DVLA to ask where her licence was and was told it had been revoked until she passes both parts of a new driving test!!!!!!

Imagine her trying to get insurance, as she`s only 22!

and?

so the moral of the story is what?

its all right to hit and run?, i had my car driven into 2 weeks ago by some clueless **** and i wouldnt mind them getting the same treatment.

Ouuuuuuuuch!!!

Hate to say it but thats the police for you. No reasoning with them! My Bro once got charged for 'violent disorder' after someone else attacked him outside his house and hit him with an iron bar - the other lad got caught and was too young to charge!

But sayin that she should have stopped especially if there was a police car around!

But i agree, Bastards!!

Re: Ouuuuuuuuch!!!

if she didnt stop, how could she know there was no damage?

Re: Re: Ouuuuuuuuch!!!

I've got five lots of (admittedly minor) damage from hit and run incidents.
Are you after sympathy or what? Don't hold your breath!

Mark.

Re: Re: Re: Ouuuuuuuuch!!!

Sorry mate but I'm with the Police on this one. I'd be wellpished off if someone had taken my mirror off because of the expense to me.

However, if se had have stopped and reported it she may have got away as the BMW was parked on double yellows. As the crime of driving off is higher than yellows, she got done. She should have stopped mate

Re: Re: Re: Re: Ouuuuuuuuch!!!

i think this is a bit of an over reaction by the police. although i agree that she should not just get away with hitting the car and driving off due to the cost to the other driver. However, what is she supposed to do, stop and wait for the other driver to come back? How many people have reversed into a small post or something in a car park? Did you stop and ring the police and the council and offer to pay to have the scrathes removed from the post? My second point, how is the action the police took going to help the BMW driver? I bet he still had to pay for the car to be fixed himself, or his insurance!

Saying that, some git in a tatty old jag opened his door into the side of my bravo whilst i was at asda and i would like nothing more than to see him get dragged through the system!

My advice to anyone who is involved in any sort of accident, always call the police, if it's only minor say your neck hurts or some shite. The only reason for this is if the other driver doesn't have insurance or similar and you don't call the police all they can do is summon them to a civil court. All they have to do is not turn up and all that can be done is put a black mark against their name. If the police are involved then they will get screwed for not having insurance etc. On the other hand, if you don't have insurance (which i don't blame anyone for not having), just don't turn up!!!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Ouuuuuuuuch!!!

the best one ive heard is that my mates dad was driving and crashed into a parked car at 6:30 am - he went and found the owner - who he had to wake up - but later found that the cars owner was sueing for whiplash!! - mayeb its best not to wait in eh? - though the police did rubbish that claim for whiplash!!
some people eh!?!lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Ouuuuuuuuch!!!

Usually I would agree with those saying hit and run is bad. But in this instance the vehicle in question was a BMW. As I am sure the majority of you will agree, I can only say that I am disappointed more substantial damage wasn`t caused.

Re : Ouch

I've had the wing mirror on my Brava smashed so could empathise with the beemer owner, but I'm not. He parked on a double yellow, so if she hadn't hit it, some other poor sod probably would've, as it was probably blocking half the road anyway. So hopefully the owner had to pay for a new one :)

Re: Re : Ouch

The lady driver was sitting in her BMW. Her car`s mirror was not broken, and there was no claim for damages. I am not looking for sympathy, but after reading about drivers maiming people and getting off more lightly, I think the punishment was OTT for a first offence by someone whose car and licence, etc were perfectly legal.

Re: Re: Re : Ouch

My g/f was on a bus into town the other day, it pulled into a bus stop where there was a car parked. he couldn't get out cos of this car and couldn't reverse cos it was busy. He beeped the horn but the driver of the car just stood and watched from the street. The bus driver then reversed about an inch then rammed the car. That made the driver move :) Aparantly the bus companies insurance won't pay out cos the car was parked illegally. So maybe if she had have stopped she could have claimed against the BMW for being in the way :)

Just a side note, i also have 3-series and golf drivers, so i love nothing more than to see either a trashed one, or one thats been pulled by the police, or cutting one up in any way :)
