Technical Awful noise when starting/flywheel not engaging

Hi,

I have 1999 punto 60sx I am told the flywheel has teeth missing which means now and again when I turn the key she makes a horrendous noise. By rolling her a bit she allows me to start her. This is very embarrassing as everyone looks at me when this happens! How do I get this sorted and any idea much is it going to cost? Any advice much appreciated. :worship:

If it is indeed the flywheel and not a broken starter then look at labour for gearbox removal / refit which would typically be around £150 - £200 + the part.

You should be able to get a good condition 2nd hand flywheel from here for a very low price if someone has one kicking around!

Scrappy for the flywheel (if that is the issue). Punto 55/60 or 1108 Cinq or Sei should be a straight swap.

If pulling the gearbox, makes sense to pop in a new clutch -- clutch is cheap, labour expensive.

Many thanks for your help, when I had the starter motor replaced they told me it had damaged some of the teeth, will definitely do the clutch at the same time, as you say it makes sense
