Technical Autotrail V line 610SE (Fiat Ducati base) Gearbox failure @8000miles

I have a Fiat Ducati 2021 Autotrail V 610 SE campervan with 9 speed automatic gearbox. Van stopped at lights and would not go into gears when driving off. Vehicle was recovered to Fiat professional garage ...Fiat say gearbox failure...will require new gearbox( iron filings detected in oil) also new oil cooler radiator ......I am out of warranty (2yrs) ..so say I have to pay £16,300 for new parts and labour.
Any advice as van has only 8300 miles on clock....I think Fiat customer service should pay as must be manufacturing fault.
Any one else had this happen and any advice

If it is a 2.2 l 160 or 180 hp there are known problems and a Fiat recall 6926.
But the 2.2 l is normally from 2022 and forward. The recall doesn´t concern the 2.3 l.
Is your a 2.2 l and 160 or 180 hp?

If you have a genuine contiguous service history, then you need to push the manufacturer to sort the problem.
Escalate the problem to Fiat's head office first and get an official response, then if needed speak to the onbudsman

The garage will always follow manufacturers guidelines (i.e. it's supposedly out of warranty, "nothing they can do")

Which Fiat engine and gearbox?
What is ownership history?
Service history during and after warranty period?

The van is low mileage, so Fiat time periods would be important for warranty.

Is the 140bhp with 9 speed automatic gearbox

If it is a 2.2 l 160 or 180 hp there are known problems and a Fiat recall 6926.

Thanks for the advice -am following up with Fiat customer care and the Fiat Proffessional garage ...they say oil was highly magnetic and showing iron filings in ...looks to me like manufacturing defect or wrong oil used on assembly...causing catastrophic failure ?

But a dealer would be able to 100% confirm via your VIN

Still with a FSH you have a good case for Fiat to sort the problem out at such a low mileage, get onto their head office and don't fall at the first hurdle. Perseverance is key with any manufacturer. They might offer a contribution, but you battle on past that point.
There's no way a gearbox should have metal in it with just 8k miles on it.

Ok, the 2.2l 140 hp is not affected by the recall.
I was told by my Fiat Professional mechanic that if anything but the 2.2 l 160 or 180 hp came in with a broken 9-speed gear box Fiat would be very interested and they would check it very closely to see if it has been optimized. If so no garantee would help.

You don't get magnetic oil, there might be a magnet attached to the drain plug which is where any metal particles will congregate.

Hopefully of some use.
Other than pleading your case directly to Fiat customer service perhaps the Fiat Professional garage used to service may help.
