D = drive = accelerate
N = neutral
P = Park
R = Reverse

Just move the stick to D and press the accelerater

i thought that while writing a sensible answer! should hae gone with proper logic, stupid question = stupid answer doh!

People who pass their test in an automatic have to pass another before they are entitled to drive a manual.

People who pass their test in a manual can automatically (no pun) drive an automatic because it is so simple.

Or is it????

yeah americans struggle becuase they use autos and can't use manuals (stick) hence you haing to pass a manual test before you can drive a manual if you only have an auto license

Thanks for the answer:)

but i don´t know why is this such a stupid question? Probably none of you usually drive an automatic geared car, neither do i. And the letters that we see in those cars have a meaning right?!!!! A-D-P-R mean something... but in your language! so in my language those letters have no logic meanings related with driving. AND...SO... if i rarely drive automatic cars it's normal that i forget the meanings and get confused. You think that all the world speaks english? You're Wrong.

Maybe if you had explained yourself better, that you were not English and just politely asked what these letters meant, I'm sure you would have received a better answer.

You think the whole world's telepathic ??

You're WRONG !!!

D is for Drive. Used for moving forward.

R is for Reverse. Used for moving backward.

P is for Park. Used when you park the vehicle and leave it.

1 & 2 are for selecting just first or second gears. Used when moving short distances or setting of on a slippery surface.

Other settings can be manufacturer specific such as S for a sport mode.

If you are in any doubt, read the manual for that car.
